Likely Letter

If you received a likely letter to Dartmouth, do you think that this is indicative of future luck? Let me clarify: I would think that a likely letter means you are competitive within the tougher schools..

What do you think

I think it means maybe just a little more than a regular Dartmouth admit letter. But, it's nice to know early that some school sees you as meeting that standard, especially if you haven't already received a good EA or SCEA admit.

In a word, No.

You could probably say this was the case only if you had the exact same pools applying at each school, but you don't. You could say this if each school had the same institutional mission, but they don't. You could say this if each school were looking to build thier freshman class the same way, they aren't.

You will find that there will be students who were accepted at HYP and rejected at Dartmouth you just don't know. Some students get admitted in to Dartmouth and rejected from Williams (2 schools which usally have a lot of overlap in their admitted pools), you just don't know because admissions at selective schools are more than just a numbers game where the institutional mission trumps everything, and each school has a different mission for filling their class.

Congrats on getting a likely letter at least you know you have a school (and a pretty good one) under your belt.
