Likely Letter?

I have heard on this thread that there was a "likely" letter sent earlier in the year. Do you guys think that we still have a shot if we didn't get such a letter?

Thx and may you all receive big pacakges.

yes, a very small amount of accepted applicants receive the early admission that Stanford began this year. Supposedly less than 100 will receive this letter and ~2000 will be accepted, so not getting a letter doesn't really impact your odds. But Stanford is Stanford, so it's still tough...

is this the first year stanford is sending those out? i don't remember any mention of them last yr (excluding recruited athletes)..

I believe so. Someone said something about it being a policy of the new Dean of Admissions, but I'm not positive.

I think so. The new Dean of Admissions is from Yale, which has distributed likely letters for many years.

haha stambliark .. thats freaky.

what is this "likely letter" you guys are talking about? is it something that they send to already admitted students or prospective students?

It's a letter for regular decision applicants, telling them that they will "likely" be accepted in the spring...basically a tactic for getting top students to matriculate.

why the change in dean btw? the previous (what was her name again? anna marie something) was only for a year huh? eh?

It was not a "likely" letter they sent out.. it was an actual "earlY' acceptance ;)... and those were sent out in Feb.

GL to everybody in the RD round.
