Anybody else get this letter today?

No. What does it say??? I want one.

Post your stats, if you could. Just wondering what tier of applicants got one.

I know that we have already thanked you, by email for applying to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill but I want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for the distinguished application you have submitted.

Over the last several weeks, as members of the Admissions Committee have learned more about you through your essays and other supporting materials, we have become more and more impressed by your strong record of personal and academic achievement. While the Committee will not make its final recommendations until late January, we believe that you will be an outstanding candidate for admission and we hope that you will continue to consider Carolina as you make your college plans.

We also hope to see you at one or more of the special events we will be hosting in March and April for students of exceptional promise. Details about these events will follow towards the end of Feb. In the meantime, if we may help in any way, please do not hesitate to let us know. Carolina is rightfully regarded as an extraordinary welcoming place-a scholarly community whose students and professors genuinely like and respect each other-and we will gladly do our part to give you the warm welcome you richly deserve.

Sincerely
Assistant Provost and Director of Admissions

Sounds like you're in. Maybe even into the honors program which takes only the top 200 students in each class. Congrats, that would be nice if I get one some time soon. I visited the campus on Tuesday and the admissions officers wouldn't tell me anything.

Sweet and Thank you, you really think that could mean the Honors Program?

I got one! :) My friend actually got a "likely call," I guess you could call it, several weeks ago. They were trying to tell him they were interested in HIM and to come up and visit, etc. But he turned them down for ED at Duke (he was in-state with 1500 SATs and a pretty good GPA.)

My quick stats:
female in-state
1410/730/730/660 on SAT I and IIs
31 ACT
3.88 GPA
school doesn't rank

I see that shefboyrdi already typed it out...I was going to, lol.

I got one of those last year........and yep, i got in, but no invite to the Honors Program. I think it almmost definitely means you're in though :o) you should go! it's an awesome schooL!

Slayer, do you know what stats students have who were invited into the Honors Programs and what benefits if any the program has?

crap..i want one of those letters!!!

same....any out of staters get one....maybe it hasnt got here yet

I'm Out of State - NJ

I got one! I'm in state, though.
1540 (800V, 740M)
790 Math IIC, 750 Chem, 740 Writing
2/503 4.0uw, 5.125w (IB Diploma student)

hm..do they send that out too all the people they will probably accept? i guess i wont be going to UNC then because i didn't get one, and i probably wont...waaaaah!

Most people accepted to UNC do NOT receive likely letters. Don't think just because you did not get a letter that you will not be accepted. I know plenty of students that did not receive a likely letter, and all were accepted EA.

Good luck!

dumb question-
so if you apply EA and get deferred, they will still stick u in the regular application pool and consider you? Also, does anyone know what percent of EA applicants are admitted (im out of state btw)

Yes, if you are deferred you will be looked at with the RD students. Usually, a student is deferred when the school wants to have a look at their first semester grades. A deferred students is one that was strong enough to be looked at again, but not strong enough for EA. This same student was not a weak student that needed to be rejected.

yay! i guess i still have a chance at UNC. i still hope i get a letter though.

are you sure? because i'm like 99% sure that if you dont get in EA, that's it. you're done.

If you are rejected, of course you will not be admitted; but if you are deferred you will be looked at again. There is no promise that you will be admitted in April, but you are given another shot.

Wow. All I have to say is that if you get deferred from your 1st-choice school like I did, you will get to know the word "deferred" very well. I have screamed it out in the middle of the night many times. And then around late March / early April some of us will get to know the word "waitlisted" very well.
