Likely Letter

Eek, whyivy! You almost scared me half to death because you're a non-URM who applied to CAS (like me)... Then I found out you're a recruit, and people on this board have said it's not uncommon for Cornell to send likely letters to recruit.

Phew, I can maintain some hope. You should've mentioned that you're a recruit! Oy.

Ah I'm nervous! I'm hispanic and I haven't gotten one.... :( (CAS)

Yeah! i got one of those from the school of engineering, and it's says that i'm a finalist in the Irwin and Joan Jacobs scholarship competition

anyone know about it, or how much its worth?

did everyone get one?

So these likely letters are sent by email? I guess that means I didn't get one.

i got mine in the mail.... but i don't know if different colleges do different things...

Well I meant the likely letter from Cornell. Is it send in the mail or email?

I think bbd44 was talking about the different colleges within Cornell, because the engineering applicants have gotten different likely letter messages.

International students have gotten them via email, whereas everyone else, I believe, has gotten them by paper mail.

im caucasian and i got a likely letter yesterday.

Hey! did anyone get likely letters for CALS??? I am still waiting......is it true that u dun get in if u didn't get one?

^ NO! Not true. (that if you don't get one, you won't get in)

Is this CAS specific? Does the college of engineering have a likely letter - if it does and i dont have one, doesnt that mean im out?

No I think it just means you're not the top out of the applicants they had this year..

Yea, likely letters aren't just for minorities and international students. I got one yesterday, for Engineering. Ahhh, i'm just really worried that for some reason I'll end up getting waitlisted though. Paranoid, i know, but you never know!

^^haha comments like that make me really nervous. everyone basically thinks im going to cornell next year, and im paranoid that i'll get rejected for some reason, even tho i got a likely letter :/

Same here! I don't want to tell people that it's an unofficial acceptance in the event that I actually don't get it (for whatever reason). I'm not even telling people about the letter. This whole thing is so elusive...

I got a likely letter and an invitation to do something with the society of women engineers

same. are you gonna go to that SWE thing?

yea i got the SWE thing too... idk if im gonna go yet cuz rpi has a thing the same day, and i might go to that even though i would rather go to cornell. i want to though. is anyone else definitely coming?

After reading something on the Cornell website, I just wanted to ask how many of you in the College of Engineering have recieved likely letters that are not girls invited to the women's society of engineers nor are ppl qualified for one of their scholarships or something like that?

Supposedly, likely letters go out to only a fraction of ppl eventually admitted so we probably shouldn't worry
