Likely letter

So I got one of those fabled likely letters! Anybody else here get one?

did u get one today? are u an athlete, URM?

congrats!! :D

Not an athlete, Asian!

are you serioussss! what did it say and did you get it today?

I got it in the mail today - standard small envelope, one sheet of paper. It just said something along the lines of, while we cannot give you an official decision right now, you can expect an acceptance (with a caveat of continuing academic performance). It congratulated me on my achievements, talked a little bit about Brown and the open curriculum, etc.

Honestly, I didn't read it too closely. I just took a quick scan, realized what it was, and started yelling, haha.

Ummm...

I thought it's been said several times before that Brown doesn't send out likely letters. So I'm just skeptical/surprised/envious :P

Nevertheless, if true, Congrats

haha, maybe someone is playing a CRUEL CRUEL joke on me.

Oh crap, now i'm scared.

EDIT: I took a pic of the letter. Have to edit out my home address and I'll upload the pic for all you curious people. it LOOKS real. You guys are scaring me, haha.

Congrats lingbo!! What a great feeling that is ! You have two extra weeks to be psyched about your admission and to love Brown even more for appreciating you like that ( it does make a difference... I began to seriously think Dartmouth after my likely from them)

Haha omgosh that would be a REALLY mean joke. But like the envelope was all official with the seal and whatnot and the letter was signed right?

Here it is:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v149/eva_c/IMGP1497.gif

And yes, it came in an official envelope with seal.

Also, about the athlete thing: perhaps I was being deceptive. I do karate - I have a black belt and some impressive sounding award. However, I was not recruited for karate (do they even recruit for that...?) and I'm honestly not that awesome at karate and do not intend to continue it in college. So I find it questionable to label myself an "athlete."

...

i'm just in awe.

is that pathetic? i dont care... wow. congrats.

march 9 and you're getting it now? where do you happen to live?

Near New York City, oddly. Maybe they just didn't mail it out until later? Eh, who knows.

did u get it on email or mail only?

Mail only.

ah okay. congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you must be sensational :)

wow, congrats lingbo!

Wow that's really awesome!!! I'm so jealous =]

Heh, would you mind posting your stats? You don't have to; I'm just sort of curious.

Sure, I've posted them before, but here they are again for the curious:

SATS: 2240 (780/730/730)
SAT IIs: 790, 750, 750, 750
GPA: 97, ranked in top 5% (but not in top 5 students, though rank no reported)
APs: 3 5's

I'm having a hard time figuring out what's so awesome about me... It may have been helped by my essay? (Very creative and offbeat.) I founded a Gay Straight Alliance at my school, edited the newspaper, some other stuff, did some significant (published front page article) for local newspaper, summer programs, a fancy sounding award in karate, lots of random stuff. I think I'll stop writing this because I'm starting to feel unworthy, LOL.

lingbo, what state are you? hoping mine is along the way =)

lingbo, Congrats! Would you mind sharing when the envelope was postmarked?
