Likely letter

Thanks for the congrats everybody! I hope your guys' acceptance letters are coming in the mail soon. :)

I live in NY.

As a current Brown student, I don't know of anyone who got likely letters who were not recruited athletes so that's pretty cool. Congrats.

that's so awesome, lingbo! i'm keeping my fingers crossed for one now...

It was postmarked the 13th.

I. Am. So. Jealous.

Congratulations, I'm sure you deserve it :)

You said it was postmarked the 13th, but on the letter it says according to your photograph March 7th

hmm i didn't notice that

actually i think it's March 9

Yeah, I guess that mailed it out a few days later...? On the stamp thing, it says that it came from Brown's zip code. I'm not sure what you're implying.

I've also never heard of likely letters from Brown, but you posted proof! Congrats. I remember reading about you quite a while ago, on the parents forum, and being very impressed. So I'm not too surprised.

If I recall, you've gotten into another Ivy EA. Good luck deciding!

While I have not heard of likely letters at Brown before (at least for non-athletes), maybe it is a new thing this year. It doesn't matter because you got one, lingbo, and I offer my congratulations on this exciting moment. Good luck deciding on schools. My kid LOVES Brown. She just told me she is going to be representing her major at the academic fair at ADOCH (the event for admitted students). It seems like she was just going to that event herself, lol. I hope you can attend as it is very helpful in making the decision of where to attend. My kid decided at ADOCH that she was going to Brown.

Much congratulations again.

wow... congrats lingbo!!

I want one !!..I want one !!..I want one !!!....I want ooooonnnnneee!!!!!!!!

(I am losing it. I got out of bed and got dressed to go to the mail box and check if my stupid brother had left such a valuable piece of mail in there ! And..NOTHING!!! To top it off, I forgot to take the alarm off ...and now I have everyone in the house screaming at me in panic because they thought someone was breaking in...)

I need one !!! I need one !!! I need one!!! I need one !!! NOW!!!!!!!!

Movie Buff... breathe. Freaking is not going to make the time pass any quicker. Au contrair, mon ami.

One friend of my D's got a likely. A real Math whiz who is waiting on MIT. Perhaps Brown is looking for Math folks so that made him an URM there.

Thats ironic, a good friend of mine who REALLY wanted to go to Brown (ED) got rejected there and is now at MIT (admitted mainly for her music stuff, at least judging by her write up in the "this year's class has..." circular)

wow, college admissions can be so unpredictable

Dear Tyrell,

The Board of Admission recently completed its review of your application to the Class of 2011. I am delighted to inform you that in recognition of your uninspired performance - both inside and beyond the classroom - the members of the Board have voted to confer on you an "unlikely" status.

Although our official offer of rejection will not be made to you until the end of March, you can assume your unlikely status means you will be rejected from Brown if you maintain your current record of underachievement. You should know this communication, from our perspective, carries the same commitment, and is subject to the same conditions, as a letter of rejection.

This year Brown received in excess of 19,000 applications for 1490 spaces in the Class 2011, and the Board has directed that I send this letter to the majority of applicants - you among them. Majority rules, eh? Simply stated, we believe you don't possess the academic and personal strengths to be a superb member of the Brown community.

We believe that in Brown's more than 240 year history there has never been a crappier aspiring member of this community. We realize now that you have fewer choices to make in the coming weeks, and we hope our decision has in turn made yours easier.

Yours sincerely,

James S. Miller
Dean of Admission

I think I need a hug.

LOL...... thank you! I needed that laugh, after stressing over not getting a likely letter from ANYONE....wah wah wah....:(

props to you tyrell!
