Guys, I am kind of confused on what the 'likely letter' means.
I applied to WashU and Vandy.
From WashU, I recieved an envelope of Financial Aid and I didn't even apply for it.
From Vandy, they sent me a postcard thanking me and saying that my application is complete.

Does it mean I got accepted to either one of them?

And do all colleges send you a likely letter if you are a good candidate/got accepted? Or are there just a few selected colleges that send you a likely letter?

Was the info from Wash U and OFFER of financial aid? or was it general information? If it actually was an offer, then I'd say your acceptance letter is not far behind.

There doesn't seem to be any indication that Vanderbuilt has accepted you yet. Your app is complete and they're looking it over.

A Likely letter is mainly a device used by the IVIES to indicate extreme likelihood of future admission. THe Ivies are bound not to offer RD official acceptance until 03/29. The likely letters are sent in Jan, Feb to people they REALLY want to matriculate -- especially athletes who may have to sign letters of intent to other schools that are recruiting them. If you have any more questions, just do a search here. However, the time that they're generally used is past and it now it's just regular decisions for everyone. Good luck

The Vandy one is meaningless. Just about every school I applied to sent a letter like that. On the other hand, if Wash U actually offered you financial aid, I would say you're in.
