Hey, Do only recruited athltes get likely letters? On the common Ivy group statement it says members can send likely letters to non-athletes as well....

Harvard sent some likely letters (not a lot) last year to academically outstanding students. Most admitted students don't get likely letters, so don't worry if you don't get one.

this year with the elimination of early action harvard is likely to make more use of likely letters (hahaha, get it?)....but nobody knows by how much.

i think i remember reading an article somewhere that i think Rapelye (sp?) of princeton actually went on the record saying that they will make much more extensive use of likely letters this year than in the past, which includes sending such letters to academic candidates, not only athletic recruits. harvard will probably implement a similar policy

I got a likely letter from Harvard in February 06 a week after my interview....I wasn't an athlete, and still to this day have no idea why I got it...but it was the most excited I have been in a long time.

i got one this year.....i am a recruited athlete though...but my sister got one and shes not anything special so i dunno...i'm not even applying though...Harvard isn't for me lol

You can't get one without applying, so akybaky's words are false. He (or she) would have had to apply first. (S)he might have received a coach's letter, though.

^^^

xjayz is right actually...my letter was addressed from the athletic department and signed by Gary Crompton (mens soccer assistant) totally overlooked that lol i didn't even read the letter...but my sister actually applied so hers may be though and if it is then shes not special lol

That's nothing. I've received the 'recruiting packet' from 3 Harvard Coaches. Do you honestly think they would recruit me for all 3? One was crew and I've never even rowed in my life.

well i dunno...what where the other two and how good are the teams...i know the soccer team was ranked top five for most of the season...but it doesn't even matter I'm not going to Harvard or applying lol

I wish I got a letter from Harvard :(

No you don't because then you'll think your in so you won't spend as much quality time as you would on your app lol :-D. But I'd have to say that most people probably don't get the letter maybe more do this year without ED but you'll be fine

I've heard of three kids who got likely letters so far: all were recruited athletes.

They send them to athletes but also to minorities with very high stats... saibondy, I think you got one last year because you are hispanic. That is awesome :]
