Likely letter

Has anyone received the likely letter from UVA?

What exactly is a likely letter? I received a letter, but I don't know whether it's a likely letter or not.

What does the letter say? When did you receive it?

Dean J talked about likely letters on their admission blog last year: Notes from Peabody II: The UVA Application Process: Letter frenzy

Okay, clearly that was not a likely letter. Never mind.

yea i read that post but it doesnt really say what the likely letter will say. i mean, are we talking a personalized letter, or something else

The letters are form letters, so aside from saying "Dear _____", they are not personalized.

ahh that would make sense. Im paranoid i'll mistake some random letter for a likely letter haha

I received a letter today in the mail-

The Committee on Admission has reviewed your application and found it impressive. Your academic record, as you are probably aware, is unusually strong; so are your achievements outside the classroom. In our experience, students who have distinguished themselves in such a wide range of activities tend to move successfully through their college years and into positions of leadership in their fields of interest. I trust this will be the case with you and I encourage you to continue challenging yourself.

Please consider UVA, etc. Please visit, etc. The Committee of Admission will make its final decisions by the end of March. In the meantime, we wish you every success as you complete your high school career.

My son received the same letter today. It also says "Please give serious consideration to the University of Virginia as the place where you might continue to grow and thrive."

Ah, I didn't think they'd hit mailboxes until Monday. Congratulations!

Now, just to restate:

Do not read into the absence of a letter. A small percentage of students get one and they are mailed out in waves. It's best to assume you will not get one and then be happily surprised if one shows up. We are still reading applications and these letters will continue to be sent out over the course of the next month.

So this is a likely letter?

Awesome! I saw the small envelope and was afraid it was an early rejection..

Can we trouble to tell us your stats, and the area you live in please?

My daughter received one today, too. What a relief!

i got a likely letter today...does anyone know what percentage of applicants get likely letters? im guessing around 5% but i dunno

yea got one of those
i too thought it was an early rejection, why the small envelope uva?
I'm an international, but live in NoVA, so I'm guessing int'l status dosn't matter w/ respect 2 letter thingy. gl all

Don't guess...we don't have a set number or percentage.

The #10 envelope makes it through the postal system more quickly and cheaply than a large envelope.

Yes, as you can see on my blog, though, they are sent by regular mail and probably won't arrive in a timely manner.

I got mine in the mail today. Hopefully I will get in.

There was a question on the blog. Has anyone who has gotten a likely letter and not gotten admissions?
