Likely letter

dean j? is this an early acceptance letter?

Read^ !

It's a likely letter. If it was a confirmed admission offer, they'd have told you that.

Like he said, it is what it is.
It's a letter of likely acceptance, not a guarantee of admission.

Take it with a grain of salt, but you can keep your hopes up and seriously consider UVA i suppose

20legend, there's got to be substantially more to your friend's application than those low SAT numbers . It's hard to believe that anybody can get a likely letter with such weak SAT's. Unless UVA has decided to disregard SAT's altogether, which I doubt.

I agree with guillaume's statement. I also received a likely letter with a score around 2300, but I think the strongest parts of my application were things that have been going on outside of school, which i am assuming may be true of many or most of us who got the letter (except for those with perfect grades and 2400s). This letter means that UVa thinks that you are a good applicant and UVa is a very strong school with very strong applicants in general.

20LEGEND is an international student and I imagine his friend is as well. In those cases, TOEFL is extremely important and considered along with the standardized testing.

w00t ! I got one too.

Dean J, do you consider all 4 sections of the TOEFL iBT ? Or just Listening, Reading, Writing?

I got a likely letter too! I didn't know what it meant at first, but now I do!
Here are my credentials:
GPA: 3.9?/4.0
SAT: 590 CR/ 680 M/ 620 W
AP: 4 5s and 1 4

EDIT: TOEFL 637

I am Asian-American born and raised outside the U.S. in the Dominican Republic.

We look at all the scores, Legend.

Alright, thanks.

Ah I hope I get one! I had a 2300 SAT and 5 5's and a 4 on APs... Crossing my fingers! I love UVA!

The vast majority of admitted students do not get one of these letters. If you expect one, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Assume you will not hear from UVa until notification (April 1).

Dangle. Carrot. Rabbit. :P

Woo, I got one today by email.

Asian-American girl attending an international school.

SAT - CR 750 / M 800 / W 800
GPA - 3.97 UW (I.. er, kind of forgot which schools include PE/Band. If this isn't one of those schools, then I have a 4.0)
No weighted grades.
Rank - No ranking system at school.
AP scores - 5s on 5 exams.

Congrats to all of you who got letter! I know it really eased my mind. In all honesty, it was probably a huge reason I ended up coming here because it got me thinking about UVa a lot more and gave me some god assurance. Be proud if you got one, its definitely saying something!

That said don't fret if you didn't get one. I know all the kids on here are crazy about being the best, but don't worry about it. You can have a strong app and not get a letter. Like everyone said, the vast majority of people that get in do not get these letters. Keep your hopes up!

D got one today - we're OOS:

SAT - CR 800 / M 670 / W 800
GPA - 3.95 UW
No weighted grades.
Rank - 1 out of 267
AP scores - School doesn't offer much - 5 and 4s on 3 exams, plus 38 hours of college work taken through joint enrollment

I recieved one today OOS, Metro Atlanta, GA. I guess ill post stats if it will help anyone either this year or next

African-American Male

UW GPA 3.3
WT GPA 3.8
Top 20%

SAT
CR 740 M 650 WR 680
1390/1600
2070/2400

Alot of outside awards and such, wahoo, I love UVA, and it was one of my first choices

I got one here in Ohio today

OOS
White Male
35 ACT
4.0 UW

If I haven't received the letter today, I guess I won't receive one. Is that mean I am not the strong applicant and the chance to be accepted alot lower than the people who got the letter?
