Single digits? That's still a HUGE number every year, given the large size of UVA's incoming class.

S received letter in the mail today.

OOS
ACT: 35
GPA: 4.4
Good recommendations from teachers, one a UVA alum.

cav: I mean like low single digits, prolly >5% get LLs revoked. I think as long as one doesnt screw up, they shouldnt have a problem. But, I'm not admissions rep (obviously), so that is purely an estimate

Dean J: So you mean this's the first wave of the letters and you haven't completed all the candidates' materials right? For I haven't received one and I submitted the application quite late. Can I ask when will be the next wave? thanx~!

1% of the incoming class comes out to about 31 people, vc08. Quite a few! I find it hard to believe that that many people are getting felony assault charges or straight Fs.

Which is why I said >5%....last time I checked, 1% was less than 5% ;)

I think cav is trying to point out that >5%=>155 applicants. If that's an accurate statistic, I agree, it's a lot of people to get their offers rescinded.

I think even 30 people is really high. Or 10. But that's just me. I hope that they have some sort of process that allows people to start as a first year after a year off or something.

I gotcha, no, as I stated before, that was totally just me guessing. And I mean 5% of the LL people, not the general admitted class.

Basically no one knows anything for sure, it's probably more like 1%, idk. Sorry for the confusion >.<

Hello Dean J! I'm an international applicant from China. Recently, I received a telephone interview from UVA (although the website said an interview is not part of the evaluation).

What makes me feel confused, is that a friend of mine who did not receive the interview got the likely letter, while I did not get it. I am aware that the likely letter is sent to very limited number of applicants, but I'm still curious about the telephone interview. Could you please give me some information about the interview, say, is it selective? who are chosen to take the interview?

Cool! I got to school today and found that at least two other people got a likely letter as well, and I wouldn't be surprised if the other applicant I know received one...and I think only a handful of us applied.

We're all OOS -- so just how many OOS people vs in-state people receive one? O_o

I am wondering if UVA still keep sending out the likely letters or this is it for this round.

no letter for me :(

My Stats

Top 1% of Class
And really lucky
with lots of EC and offices and sports

School profile:
School sent 19 to UVA last year, and about 10 to the Ivies.

It looks like a lot of these 1st round likely letters went out to OOS and internationals.

Well, on average, I would expect the stats of oos applicants to be higher than is applicants.

My D is in state and received one. Although, I think her stats would be competitive in an OOS pool.

SATs: CR 800, M 700, WR 780
All A's (except one B+) on high school transcript in very rigorous program at elite private school.

Cherry: If you do a quick glance through the threads, I think you'll find that that topic has been addressed several times ;) good luck!

For those people who got the letter, when did you guys submit the applications?

all the likely letters received in my school were for the students who applied to the School of Engineering, does that mean anything? They also applied earlier than the rest of us, does that have an affect on the first round of likely letters? just wondering :)
