Likely Letter?

I wouldn't say that for sure flopsy. I got a letter and did kinda tragic on my SAT II's actually haha. But I did have decent act scores and a decent gpa...

Hmmmmmmmmmm. Maybe just good in some areas :P.

act: 32
gpa: 4.3 w, 3.96 uw.
5 ap classes
excellent ec's & varsity soccer.

well SAT I math, SAT II math and science and your highschool math science levels and scores are the deciding factors

800 math2c
540 ushistory <--- PUHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHA

i know i laugh every time i see it. i got the letter though ^^

I called UCLA and asked them. They said to not worry. I even asked the person doesnt that mean some people are acceptd and othrs are rejectd. She said that would be pretty mean so we dont do that. OKK. People with lower stats got the letter in my school. So now I think its based mostly on GPA. Cuz my scores were better and I think my essay was good. I dnno. Im just fed up with life rite now.

The one place I want to go and I get rejected. I don't know. Maybe they are still evaluating all the additional stuff (like honors) I sent in

well GPA does push their cases a bit because that actually shows hard work and knowledge throughout highschool rather than a couple tests that you don't really need to study for

^What if that 4.3 UC GPA came from an intercity school? What if it came from Lynbrook or Troy High school? That GPA might show hard work, but the hard work put into even a 3.8 at a top HS is not the same as the effort to get a 4.3 from a less reputable source. Whether or not you study for a test, it gauges your abilities. When someone with a high GPA bombs the SAT, that discrepancy has to be noted. Test scores are very much an important factor for this as well.

^^ notice he said other students from his school, which implies that they had similar class difficulty within the same school, we all know that a 3.8 from lynbrook or troy is better than a 4.3 from compton or something... but when its in the same school then they might take the kids with better GPA also a lot of people have low SAT language scores but their 750+ on math would push them into engineering

I got a 800 Math IIC, 740 Physics, 720 Chem, and 540 US History! ;]

Kick53rv3 (lol kickserve), But I had significantly highr scores. Enuf to say that I am now confident I do not know how "holistic" or like in general do not know how the admissions work at UCLA. But its ok I dont care that much. I mean there is a chance that non-letters may still get in. I just dont get how some are "better" applicants than others. It feels quite depressing to know som1 else got it. u know what I mean?

By the way I had a 750+ score for all the engineering related subjects. lol but i failed history and chem (Chem: 700 and History: 550). However, these were not my two highest scores.

Congrats to the letter people (LPs)

^^I don't mean to offend anyone. Thanks^^

I got the letter... stats:

SAT: 2260 (800 math, 760 writing, 690 verbal)
SAT2s: 800 math, 700 physics, 720 bio, 660 us history
GPA unweighted: 3.78 (consistent upward trend)
GPA weighted: 4.3
ECs - really good

sry CIT430 i guess i was kinda harsh on my words that sounded like you don't deserve to get in, i didn't mean that in anyway, heck my scores aren't even as high as yours, i was just trying to say that in your example both of you guys were in the same school... i wouldn't count on rejection just because of an unofficial letter... good luck on decision day and hopefully you'll get in somewhere even better than UCLA

you guys are forgetting one thing more important than SAT's and GPA...
...
AP Exam grades

i think these are the MOST important

question: does it make a difference if you only got the email letter and not the physical one? cuz i only got email so far and i saw some people got both....

i don't know how big AP exams play since a lot of schools don't offer some, some schools don't offer at all, some schools put emphasis on IB, and some people don't take that many APs in junior year like i have 5 AP classes during senior year and only 2 during junior year... but thats just my school tho

nbui3: you shouldn't worry...yet. the people who got the mail were from CA. Us OOSers have to wait a while. (i'm assuming you're from oos)

what about factors like your school api and your college essay? how important are those?

crap, i live in CA and haven't gotten the physical letter...

i think with ACT and SAT's/II, they are more test of knowledge. AP tests are tests of intelligence and definitely more difficult. Scoring high on them, especially the ones that relate to engineering will be a plus...but youre right though kickserve cuz not all schools offer AP so there might be a disadvantage etc etc i took one soph year, 3 junior year, and 5 this year.

school api is idk, semi-important? but the essay i would guess really important. cuz it seperates the best from the better you know what i mean???

iono...i would die if didn't get in after receiving the e-mail haha

did everyone who got the email recieve the phsyical letter because i have yet to receive it in the mail....but i haven't rsvp'd my email one yet

thats ridiculous! The email had my name and application ID number and everything! They couldn't have mistaken !!! I HAVE TO EMAIL THEM ABOUT THIS!!!
