Congrats, Chancellor! Your stats give me some hope, hah :).

likely letters at this point? That’s weird. Did you get it in the mail, if so where are you from?

my friend got it last saturday in south florida

are you talking about brown plme or just brown likely?

he got brown likely for plme

I really liked brown and am sorta mad i didn’t get a likely letter

but seeing how people people like Chancellor10 get likely letters…i see that brown is no different than any other school who cares about nothing but looking “modern” and “postracial” by admitting unqualified minorities…this is so pathetic

to all the people reading this forum: PLEASE DON’T GET SAD/MAD IF YOU DON’T MAKE BROWN, BECAUSE YOU KNOW IT’S NOT AN ACCURATE REFLECTION OF YOUR ABILITIES…BUT A PATHETIC ATTEMPT AT CREATING A POLITICALLY CORRECT IMAGE

The post above me is extremely entertaining.

@brownisawesome,

you’re acting like you’re entitled to a likely letter. heck, you’re not even entitled to an acceptance letter. they choose if they want you at their school, and if they don’t, then sorry you just weren’t what they wanted. trust me, if they really wanted you, you would get in despite any “political-correctness,” so don’t turn this thread into an argument.

just my 2 cents

Test scores do not reflect intellect.

Brown seems to be looking for intellect and not just book smarts.

Which do you pride yourself on?

LOL @ Brownisawesome. People like you do not deserve the privilege to attend Brown—based on your attitude.

@ Brownisawesome I am sorry but the only pathetic “thing” here is you, they want diversity no ■■■■■■.

This might be a dumb question, but do all admitted students get likely letters?

^^ No .

No only around 200 (at least that’s the number other ivied send out) and a lot are to recruited athletes! They accept around 2500 total so the majority do not recieve letters

This might also be a dumb question, and somewhat as a reaction to that earlier rant, but do LL usually go to those who have some kind of hook? (URM, under-represented state, etc.)

@limabeans,

I’m only answering this off of anecdotal evidence from my school, but most LL’s go out to athletes, highly-qualified URMs, and the overall supersmart 2400 types that are bound to get into every school they’ve applied to, but end up becoming more drawn to the school that they receive the likely letter from due to the appeal of receiving a decision earlier. Not that many people receive them, but my close friend received one from almost every school she applied to this year.

I thought the whole athlete recruiting process has completely different timing. The whole vetting process goes on for awhile, starting in mid-summer. The student interviews, sends tapes and meets the coach and team. I also thought it starts and ends much earlier. The HS coach is very involved and has a lot of say about where you’d go.

I write this only from seeing kids in our HS sign a contract. Many of the student/athletes I know signed sometime in the fall. So why would a school send out LL to athletes? Don’t they already know where they’re going?

I see athletes often mentioned in college newspapers concerning likelies [The Brown Daily Herald](http://www.browndailyherald.com/mobile/campus-news/top-scholars-athletes-get-likely-letters-from-office-of-admission-1.1673946)

to brownisawesome:

I’m sorry that you did not recieve a likely letter, but I am not sorry that I did. I worked hard for my acceptance into Brown. I wrote all the essays; just as you did. I filled out all the forms; just as you did. And I took my SAT; just as you did. But I did all these things when the odds were against me, when there was no hope, only a dream. No one handed me anything, I earned every single word on that letter. Sure my stats may not be “Ivy League” material, but I chose Brown because I knew that test scores weren’t the single most important factor in admissions. I chose Brown because above everything else I knew that I wanted to be successful, which is essentially why everyone, including yourself chose Brown. So no, I am not sorry for being accepted to Brown, but I am sorry that you felt the need to attack me to justify your reason for not getting a likely letter. But I still wish the best for you, I hope to see you in the fall! GO BEARS!

@Chancellor10: You rock!!! I am glad that Brown saw beyond test scores to admit you! Now I just wish that I can see you on campus this fall ^^
