Likely Letters Class of 2016

So when do they stop sending these “likely” letters??

jrftkd: Do you still think you don’t have the slightest chance?

@ coobot - that’s not fair. I posted that my second day on cc after looking over the Stanford REA admissions decisions and was freaking out slightly xp

So if you don’t get a “likely letter”, can you pretty much assume you won’t get accepted?

Nope, not at all! The likely letters are just sent out to increase yield. They only send out a few likely letters (the bulk of the decisions are released RD).

About how many likely letters are sent out?

Would the table below explain why likely letters are issued more aggressively in some unis?
%Admtd
Overall %Yield
Duke 19 40
Williams 19 44
Dartmouth 10 49
Upenn 14 64
MIT 9 64
Stanford 7 70
Harvard 7 75
Source: Common Data Sets (approx. only/may not represent stats of same year)

In other words, UPenn should gain more in issuing LLs, simply due to the equal yield result despite the higher admit rate than MIT.

I got one in early Feb… I literally started jumping up and down when it came…LOL  Stanfords always been my dream school! Good luck to everyone who applied!

^2 posts - While overall yield may be 49%, the Dartmouth RD yield is much lower, about 33%. Deduct the # of how many enroll via early decision, determine remaining slots to be admitted through RD, and then extrapolate how many admits are required to fill the remainder of the entering class of 1100. Based on recent Common Data Sets, the RD yield, as described above is about 33%. Similar RD yields can be determined for the other schools, although Harvard is not forthcoming with enough data to allow a calculation to be illustrated. FYI, Mr VC

Got one in late February. So unexpected! Best feeling ever.

So a likely letter is basically a letter that says you’re admitted to Stanford…does everyone that gets a likely letter get an official decision letter?
