Likely Letters for RD

The message board was kind of disappointing. I tried to make a post yesterday and it still hasn't been approved yet or whatever.

And yeah, I never put UNC too high on my list because I never expected to actually get in, but now I'm definitely reconsidering.

I didn't get one of these letters :(

now I'm worried.

dude heathergee. same here, i was so sure i was a reject. ive been sitting here telling myself i musta been one of the weakest people they sent one of those to

I'm just kind of worried because, as I said before, 2 other people in my school district got the letter. Those 2 technically go to a different high school than me because we just recently split our one high school to two, but we're in the same district.

And Long Island is just soooo competitive for well known colleges, it's surprising that they'd take 3 of us.

are they strong applicants? bc i didnt mean i was a complete reject, i was probly jsut being pessimistic bc im on this website too much and every1 on it is either lying or ridiculously good at life, admissions r such a crapshoot u never know. i wish it just said, u can stop worrying, u have been admitted to the university of north carolina at chapel hill bc this is stressful

Haha of course you're not a complete reject, you got a likely letter from UNC!

But yeah, the other 2 are both very strong candidates. It was just unexpected and what's weird is that there might've been even more people that got letters, those 2 just happen to be my friends so we were talking about it.

And I know! The stress is so much. I can't wait until April when I finally know where I'm OFFICIALLY accepted haha

I'm pretty sure that UNC doesn't keep a record of where they're accepting their students (I mean, they do, but if 82937483 kids from Long Island apply to UNC, they'll read all 82937483 applications and consider them). Don't quote me on that.

You should go back and find the EA thread where people got their likely letters, and see if any of them were later rejected or deferred. If my memory serves me correctly, in this forum if you got the likely letter you were accepted and then asked to come to scholarship day. I did hear some people being called up by some admissions people and not getting a huge or an offer of a scholarship yet, but at any rate they got in.

To cut to the chase... I'd go ahead and schedule your revisit of UNC.

I got a likely letter EA (OOS), but no scholarship day or honors program. Still hoping it actually "means" something.

19382, so u didnt get in early action after getting a letter?

No, I got in. It just doesn't seem to have "meant" anything yet (as in, there's no distinction between me getting this letter and just getting accepted EA).

These are definitely likely letters. The letters mean you're in, and you will stay in unless you totally screw something up between now and June. Congrats, everybody!

So wait, which letter exactly are we talking about? Mine begins "I write this morning to thank you for your distinguished application (so on so forth)...While offers of admission will not be mailed until late March, we believe you are an outstanding candidate--the kind of student who will contribute to our community and make full and creative use..." whatever. So this letter means that I actually got into UNC-Chapel Hill (if I don't fail or get arrested or whatever)??

If so, that is sooooo exciting!

j07 i got the same one today!!!!!

I'm so excited even though I don't know what this letter means! But congrats shahwaiz69!

im guessing it means your probably in..:D:D:D...todays my lucky day i got a 22k merit scholarship from my backup!

j07 and shahwaiz69, you two are in for sure: )

haha yup, congrats!

Any idea of how many people get these letters? I'm sure the majority of accepted students don't, but I'm curious.

for out of state people who got likely letters. what were your stats? thanks
