would it be naive and foolish to get your hopes up if u get a likely letter from vandy/duke? esp if u live in NC?

congrats!

I must wonder, however, whether your residency in the south would perhaps boost your chances at vanderbilt/duke (especially the latter) more than it would for schools as unpredictable as the ivies

certainly the likely letters tell you you’re on the right path for any school, but it’s just too hard to tell

An acceptance to Vanderbilt is not the equivalent of an Ivy League admission. An acceptance to Duke might equate to a Cornell acceptance, but is less than an acceptance to Wharton, Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth, Columbia or Brown.

Learned something new from CC tonight: Vandy sends likely letters???

I got a likely from Duke as well. Im not really sure what it exactly says. Icy9ff8 is right but it doesnt necessarily apply to us as we are the top duke acceptees (350 from 4000 accepted, out of 20000 that applied). We probably have a fairly good chance of being accepted to at least one of the top ivys.

how reliable are likely letters?

very reliable. They sent two letters. One to me and one to my parents both saying they will offer me admission in april. They are also flying me out for free to Duke for a few days. My friend who got one last year said they treat us like rock stars and stuff. Its fairly certain unless you do bad stuff.

hum, that sounds nice!
which colleges send them?

when did duke send out likely letters? & do they send out several ‘rounds’ of LLs like some other ppl say?
