Likely Letters vs. Rolling Acceptances

Ok, so I know that CALS, ILR and Hotel School all have rolling acceptances running where they give 'selected' students their admissions decisions early. I also know that CAS and the other colleges have likely letters instead. So, my question is: Are likely letters and rolling acceptances the same in terms of rarity and significance? and who exactly gets the rolling acceptances?

Thanks in advance:)

can anyone answer my question?

They are totally different. Rolling acceptances means that a college sends out decisions on a rolling basis: there is a relationship between when you send in your application and when you get a reply. Likely letters are sent to a few people that the college REALLY wants to attend. Just because you don’t get a likely letter doesn’t mean you aren’t going to be accepted.

Oh ok. Thanks for the clarification. But is the time basis thing for rolling admissions for cornell really true though? Something seems odd about it in this case.

FYI: Just because you dont receive an acceptance letter or a “likely” letter before the RD decision date DOESNT MEAN that you are automatically rejected

Yeah I’m aware of that. I just wanted to know whether rolling acceptances were of any significance or if it just meant that they read some people’s apps before others.

That’s exactly what it means. Don’t worry about it.
