A kid at my school supposedly (rumor) got a likely letter recently. He isn't an athlete, not a legacy, hasn't won Intel or anything major like that--but he did get a 2400. Is this possible? Why would he get a likely letter 3 or so days before the decision? I thought only athletes and research prodigies etc. got them anyways.

I have never heard of a likely letter for a non-recruited athlete during SCEA.

In terms of just the 3 or so days thing, slow mail?
I don’t think there’s any mentions of such things on the forums…probably just a rumor. I mean anyone that knows about academic likely letters and 2400s could’ve connected that kid to one, assuming they’ll obviously get in.
I’ll guess you’ll partially know Wednesday :)

I’m almost positive they do not send non-athletic likely letters during the SCEA round, ESPECIALLY this close to the decision date.
