So apparently RIT gives out likely letters.
Are these similar to other schools, where it's basically an acceptance?

I read and re-read a letter RIT sent to my daughter and figured it’s as close to a likely letter as anything. It says “When you are accepted…” and lists a date for a Women in Engineering weekend at the end of March.

We’ll know for sure at the beginning of March.

What date was the likely letter received?

My daughter’s arrived 2 - 3 weeks ago. At first glance, it looked like a “Thanks for applying. RIT is a great school.” letter. Only after reading it again did I notice the tone was leaning more towards “Here’s why you should chose to matriculate at RIT.”

Like I said, we’ll know for sure in less than four weeks. She can’t make any decisions until a formal decision is sent.

Does anyone know when RD applicants will be notified, and will it be via email or mail?

Based on this thread, it looks like last year people started getting notified on Friday, February 18 by mail (note that the first part of the thread was from February 2010, then it switches to February 2011):

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/rochester-institute-technology/867933-accepted.html

Also, it looks like, at least in February 2010, that some people logged on a day or two before they got the acceptance package and saw their acceptance online first.

Good luck to your D!!

I got a likely letter.
Quote, “Although we will not be notifying regular decision applicants about their official admission decision until close to the March 15 notification date, we feel optimistic about your likelihood for admission and wanted to share this with you early on, as you are making plans regarding your future.”

I received the likely letter exactly one month before I received my acceptance packet.

but he got accepted anyway. About two weeks ago.
