Does the fact that my son (in CT) has not received a letter mean he should brace himself for bad news? He was admitted to Boston College early action and the only other school that he would consider is URichmond. He’s anxiously waiting to see if he got in.

I wouldn’t sweat not receiving a letter… if they had all their decisions made by now, the final decision letters would be out and we’d all know. The letters probably represent a small minority of the thousands of acceptances they will eventually mail.

Ughhh I know everyone’s saying not to sweat it but I am FREAKING OUT because I haven’t gotten one of these letters (I live in PA). I want to go here so so so so so SO bad but I fear that I won’t get in because of something stupid like test scores or just not looking better than someone else similar. I wish I had known I was going to like this school better than the rest because I would’ve applied ED.

Not getting a likely letter does not mean you will not get in. For UDelaware, I got a likely letter, but a friend of mine - with much greater stats - did not get one. However, we both got in. I don’t understand the whole ‘likely letter’ process in terms of to whom they are sent and what not…

My guess is it is all about getting the prospective enrollee thinking about their school as quickly as possible. This is the time where applicants are getting decisions…and the sooner that you can get the applicant thinking about your school, the better chance you have of matriculating them. My son is looning at a competative group of schools (UR, Tulane, Miami, etc…), and while he has favorites (he was deferred ED at Richmond), he is keeping an open mind. He got in EA at Miami, and he is already getting swagged out with gear from “The U”…he has told me that he will keep an open mind if he gets into either UR or Tulane, but I can tell you that being the “clubhouse leader” will probably help Miami in the decision process…

The “likely letter” group are probably the “no-brainer” admits…but there is probably still a chunk of admits that the admissions office is burning the midmight oil right now trying to to identify.

bebopdeluxe- my son is applying to the same group! Got in EA and UMiami and Nova, but loved Richmond. As parent, I am concerned about the party distractions at Miami, but he loves the sports/school spirit. Also got deferred at Duke - crossing fingers, but not hopeful.

From CT, he did not get a “likely” letter from UR…hope that is not a bad sign!

The bottom line is that there will be distractions at every school…whether it is the beach at UM or Bourbon Street for Tulane or the restaurant/club scene at BU (another of his options)…the mantra at many of these schools is “work hard, play hard”, and as long as he gets the first one done (and is not stupid with the second one), I think he will be fine.

The one thing that I have stressed to him, however, is that I have talked to people who have told me that you need to take “The U” seriously as it relates to classes and workload…or he will get buried (again, not unlike other schools). I am sure that this will be the case wherever he goes…and he will just have to learn that for himself.

I am still reeling from this likely letter because I am definitely NOT a no-brainer. I have 2 C’s on my high school record and my first semester senior grades were atrocious- the worst of my whole high school career. I was fully prepared to receive a rejection letter. I definitely wouldn’t worry too much. :)

Did not get one - from NJ

Hey guys… can anyyy of you pleeaase tell me your SAT score… I just wanna know how amazing one has to be to get a likely letter… I am pretty sure that I ll get a good old “Sorry to inform you…” with my score of 2050. Damn. … anyway please let me know your scores. Thanks!

2040 in PA

Keep in mind that U of R has a holistic approach to applicants. Even if you have a higher SAT score, someone else might have a talent or experience that U of R values more.

2200 in NJ and did not get likely letter.

Oh I guess it ll be tougher for me being an international. Aaahhh 2050 just doesnt seem enough… any of you guys applied for finaid?

2050 in NY … 3.9 unweighted … test scores by far the weakest part of application.
Numerous leadership and athletic awards … but not recruited … I think she is the typical all around Richmond target

My d got a 2300 (single sitting), has a 3.86, visited Richmond, but didn’t get a likely. Lots of other options with great scholarships, but nothing yet from here…

My son (in Oregon) got 2000 on SAT and 3.83 UW/4.03 W. He got the “likely” letter in which they also offered $500 travel grant. Will visit Richmond in April along with a few other schools on the East Coast. Has anyone gotten the official packet yet?

Any clue as to when decisions will be released or mailed?

I think the decisions might already been mailed out since internationals got their emails.
Wait, that doesn’t make sense, since Scholars interviews are this week, and admission decisions came out after Scholars decisions last year… So probably not out…

For those that have gotten likely letters: are they paying for you to visit the school?
