@lisaol I wouldn’t want to discourage anyone who applied to Brown :-< , but my stats are as followed:
ACT:34
SAT:2190 (2230 superscore) (i got 2190 w/o an SAT class, and then a program I was in paid for a class for me. I got 2170 the second time x) but it definitely helped me on my ACT test!)
800 Math II 780 Chem 760 Bio E 670 US History and 610 Lit
GPA: 4.44 weighted o3o’
-First generation to go to college -Parents didn’t have anything past a highschool education (low income, too)
President of 1 club, co-captain of my school’s academic decathlon, and I’m my Key Club’s division’s fundraiser coordinator.
And my school is a local public school with ~1900 students. I went to it because it was literally across the street from my house ^.^’. I wouldn’t say that it’s a competitive highschool, though. I think i’m the 2nd person in my school to be accepted to an ivy
My counselor letter of rec wasn’t that good, but I got nice ones from my teachers. I had a really amazing letter from my principal but could only submit it to other colleges (since brown only accepts them from teachers)
I also received a ton of help from my brother & other teachers for my PSs & supplements. I did a ton of revisions. Oh gosh, it was a dark time.
I also applied to the Brown-RISD program! Maybe Brown officers can read my principals letter from there? Haha. Regardless if I don’t get into Brown-RISD, I think I’ll still go to Brown!
I didn’t even know Brown gave out likely letters.
I’m happy to answer any other questions. I’m not sure what else I could say x]]
Hm, interesting! Same actually haha that’s one of the reasons I chose Brown to apply to, idk what I really want yet. If you don’t mind me asking, why do you think you got the letter?
@anonymous554 Congratulations!!! will you be visiting brown in April?
@DL43516 I think I can say for those who got a letter, we were all very surprised. I know there are tons of people with amazing stats (better stats than me, too).
The letter I got doesn’t say outright, but it does provide a glimpse as to why. I think part of it had to do with the obstacles I had to overcome (father passed away when I was 9, along with other things I posted previously) and I was able to carve my own path with my education and my hobbies (I did a minor role as a game sprite designer for 4ish years, unpaid, which was super fun). I submitted an art supplement that I was very proud of, although I didn’t know about it until close to the deadline, which made me work extra hard on it. I also was very involved - and did not join clubs just to pad an application. I also did tons of edits on all of my supplements and personal statements.
I had a great interview, which was also a factor. My interviewer was awesome (and a bit sarcastic? haha), and we talked about a variety things, from my artwork, to my personal background, to things I’m passionate about, like The Colbert Report & The Daily Show (teehee), and more. I learned a lot about Brown & his experience, and had a great conversation. It felt very natural (as natural as an interview could be).
For any future applicants, I say find something you’re passionate and run with it. It doesn’t have to be academics-related and it doesn’t always have to relate to your major. It’ll add a certain depth to your application that will help you & you’ll have an amazing experience all the while!!
Anyways, I’d love to hear about other people’s experiences & stats. Best of luck to everyone.
@Barbiegirl127975: I doubt they’ll be sending out any more past these few rounds. Admissions come out soon enough that it wouldn’t really be worth it.
I got mine today in the mail dated March 16th. Not an athlete. And also unlike other schools (like Columbia for example) I only received a paper copy, no email.
