does dartmouth send them? when? are they just for athletes or can regular people get them?

yea "regular people" can get them too

Yes they send them. I got mine either in Jan or Feb last year.

do a search. this question was just posted.

Yes the question was already answered. They send them out in early February, later in February and then in March to applicants they know for sure they will accept and they hope they will choose Dartmouth over another ivy league ect by letting them know early they were really wanted. I have read on the Dartmouth site that they are sent in the order that the applications come in. Those who get them in early February are probably those very strong applicants who put their applications in early and they might have been
read first.
It is unclear if Dartmouth sends the likely letters to those with perfect or near perfect SAT scores as a way of attracting that base, or if they send them to those with competitive SAT scores for Dartmouth but with exceptional extra curriculars, ect.

can suze and everyone who got a likely letter last year post some basic stats? i'm just curious as to what types of applicants are good enough to get these letters.

Yeah...I got one, too. It was such a relief...I knew I was going to a great school no matter what happened. I ended up having to pick between the D and UPenn but I'm here at the Big Green and I'm very happy! ^_^
