I have heard that Harvard is one of the few schools that sends out likely letters to non-athelets. I can't find any solid evidence of this soooooo does anyone know for sure if its true? If it is, when do people usually get them?

It's really, really, really rare. I think I heard of it once on the forum, but never talked to anyone who received one- I'm honestly skeptical that it happens. So you can definitely be assured that even if you don't receive a likely letter, it in no way suggests you're even a little less likely to get in.

Dartmouth is one school that DOES send out likely letters, several of my friends received them.

From what I can remembering hearing, likely letters at Harvard tend to be reserved for athletes, though my roomate told me about one girl from his school or town (can't remember which) who did get a likely letter and surely was not an athlete. Also, on top of Dartmouth, I know Cornell gives out likely letters.

apparently, according to the other forum, yale also gives out around 100 "likely letters"

hmmm i'm pretty sure harvard gives likely letters to non-athletes

Corinao- where did you hear that?

The only time I've ever heard of a likely letter being sent to a non-athlete, it's usually the friend of a friend of a forum member. I'm not saying it's not true (and I'm definitely not saying anyone's lying!), but I haven't seen any evidence that they do send out likely letters. (I'll ask around, though).

Posts: 1,450 Harvard does not utilize likely letters that often. The vast majority (virtually 100%) of likely letters are sent to varsity athletes.
