Yay, I got one too.

However, does Columbia give these to basically everyone they're planning to accept or to certain, "special" applicants?

I just want to know to see how this reflects on my chances in other schools.

Hey, Oasis, I'm from Taiwan, too! :) Got accepted to Stanford early, but no likely letters yet...:(

Has anyone applying to Columbia college received likely letters?

Mavere,
it says a lot about your chances to Columbia but not so much to other schools.

congrats oasis!
where was your other likely letter from? ;)

I believe the only likely letters that Columbia College sends are to athletes (who also may be looking at scholarship schools that require an earlier commitment). However, any Ivy can send a likely letter to any one it wants. It is tantamount to an admission, the only difference being the agreed upon uniform notification date when "official" letters can be sent.

I got one to Columbia College!! Assuming i dont screw up my grades for the rest of the year I'lll be a freshman next year!!!

I got one too!!:)
I applied to SEAS.

any international citizen who's got a likely letter?

???? international citizen? as in U.S. citizen living outside of U.S., or international student living inside U.S?

oh, i knew people would be confused by that post..

i meant an international student living outside the US.

anybody?

Wow. Any other CCollege'ers get letters?

I wonder if there's anyone who wasn't admitted after getting a likely letter.

this is the first time i read columbia sends out likely letters. is this new or what?

damn.. i wish i got one of those :(

for the people who DID get likely letters.. what are ur stats?

2350+ on sat's , around that on combined three of my sat 2's, top 2% on the class, great ec's, leadership positions...and i am assuming this is the case for many of the likelies...

Well my ECs aren't particularly great, but I am quite proud of my essays and recs.

Anyway, should I be worried about my Columbia interview for tomorrow? I thought the deadline for SEAS interview was 2/14, but I guess not...

Really hope this doesn't affect my "favorable word". lol

That's funny. Columbia still wants to interview you after you've received your likely letter? To me, that sounds like wasting time. The admissions should schedule your time for another who hasn't received a likely letter, and that might help that applicant.

Well, I think I'm lucky that I never had an interview with Columbia, but I did have interviews with Harvard, MIT, and Yale.

Don't worry. You should be fine. Interviews don't weigh that much anyways.

Yes!!!!!! So I guess this means I can celebrate. I didn't want to tell everybody and then come April I'm really not in. Wow your stats were way better than mine:
720 CR, 690 M, 680 W 11 essay
750 Math II, 670 Physics, 700 US H
Giving hope to all the non SAT geniuses!

shawtysqrpants: did you apply for SCEA? what were some of your ECs? no offense, but your SATs arent what I expected from a likely SCEA acceptance.. give me hope, please! hahah

My stats were: 2290 SAT (690 writing), 800/800/800/770/770/750 for SAT II's, 8 AP exams (7 fives), three significant ECs with leadership positions (around 10-20 hours a week for each). I think my personal statement made a difference -- the Columbia online app is so limited in terms of formatting that it's hard to elaborate much of ECs...generally, I think the deciding factor for most applicants (aside from test scores and activities - which should be good enough already), is the essay.
