Likely Letters

Anyone hear from Wellesley if they were likely to be admitted.

Not yet :(

I did- letter came today.

I did-It's not even maybe; it's unlikely. Well, I guess I won't be going there this fall :p Ruined my perfectly fine day... damn...

I'm sorry, hhboyji :(

Better news will come later this spring.

got one today - likely. :)

where do you live, kit? i'm wondering when the mailed them out. i probably won't get mine until at least tomorrow.

I live in CT.

Congratulations, Kit- is it your first choice?

Good Luck, Pamplemousse.

It isn't, but its up there, so I'm still really excited :) Thanks. You too.

I got a likely too. I live in CA.

I got a possible letter. Did anyone else get one. Do you think there is a chance or should you commit to another college?

Why would you commit? Do you mean a rolling admissions school? I sent my deposit into our state university, because it's refundable until April 31st. I just wanted to hold a spot at a school. If it's a situation like that, you might as well send a deposit, but you can certainly just wait and see what your options are in April, and make a fully informed choice.

I'm curious what the possible letter says- would you mind posting the text?

"The B of A has completed its deliberations for EE and has determined that it is possible you may be admitted in the spring. This means your file will be evaluated again by the team from the B of A, but an admit decision is not guaranteed." It went on to say that they had a record number of EE application this year. "In the past three years, W has accepted slightly more than 25 percent of the students in this group. Many students in this category will be offered a place on the wait list and some will be refused in March. We want to be honest with you as possible at this point in the admission process."

That the first paragraph. What do you think. My parents feel I should look elsewhere. But I love W.

I think it means just what it says- it's possible. Don't get your hopes too high, but also don't give up hope. I assume you've applied to safety schools too, right? Make sure you've got a good backup plan, but you're not out of the running yet.

Thanks for your hopeful outlook. I think what hurt me were my midterm grades. I got a B in Ap Cal, a B- in honors Physics, a A+ in Spanish 5 and A in honors Wind Ensemble. Term 2, I had all A's and a B+. The midterm exams killed me and brought my averages down. I stiil have a 4.1 weighted average and 1400 on my SAT. I hope I can get an April admit.

I definitely don't think it's out of the question.

for those who got a "likely" in their letters, what exactly did it say?

you should always have a backup school that you wouldn't mind going to... at least for a while. always remember, you can transfer. don't give up hope.

Pamplemousse, here's what the letter said:

Dear Elizabeth,

Congratulations! The Board of Admissions has reviewed your application under the Early Evaluation Plan and has determined you are in the top group of applicants. You are likely to be admitted in March. The Board's confidence and enthusiasm about candidacy are reflected in this early assessment of your application.

That's the first paragraph- I'll post the rest later if you want. It basically goes on to say that admission is likely, tells about the open campus weekend, says to finish senior year strong, and say congratulations once more.
