likely letters

Am I the only URM who DIDN'T get a likely letter?
I honestly do not think I can sleep tonight.

Don't worry. I'm a URM and I didn't get one either.

I'm a URM...didn't get one...got one from almost every other school so kinda disappointing (not to sound conceited) but oh well :(

I just don't understand.

I got into Emory, Duke, Cornell, UNC, and NYU...UF too(state school)

SUCKS. I saved for like 3 months to buy a plane ticket to NU and did like...everything to get in. Grr.

what are your stats puzzledlily?

puzzledlily - Don't give up yet. You haven't even heard NU's decision! Just wait and see what happens.

Yeah I'm already pretty much given up. I gotta prepare for the worst.

Stats:
Haitian
Single parent home
Valedictorian
NHS Pres(1 yr pres, 4 years involved), Ybk Ed(3 years as editor), SGA Historian(4 years involvement), Golf Captain(3 years involvement, 1 captain)
Worked 2 jobs for over a year
Worked 65+ hours/wk for two summers
Boards are kinda low, 27/28 ACT - 98th percnetile in English and Reading, so hot in science + math
6 recommendation letters(over the top, I know)

i didn't any likely letter either. though it does seem that everyone in this board has gotten one.

by the way, what's URM?

underrepresented minority

Predict your admissions result

Puzzledlily - Wait-listed/rejected

puzzledlily:

Why the **** are you whining because you didnt get a ****ing likely letter! Are you kidding! Are you just looking for attention? Trying to get everyone to tell you, "dont worry, you'll get in! Your stats are amazing!"

I flat out find it impossible to believe that you really think youre going to be rejected or waitlisted. This thread is a rediculous cry for attention...

However, (just so I'm not a complete jerk...), I want you to know that likely letters are only sent to the very very best of the applying students, so not getting one doesnt mean that you will be rejected (MOST students accepted to the top universities did not recieve likely letters...)

UH. THAT WAS SO RUDE.

I'm not doing that for attention. It is a KNOWN fact that a lot of overly qualified people get rejected EVERY DAY from the best universities. EVERY DAY.

Sorry I am not one of those cocky kids who thinks Northwestern is a safety school, okay. Sorry for being like almost EVERY OTHER KID ON COLLEGE CONFIDENTIAL WHO WANTS TO MEET OTHER KIDS WHO SHARE THE SAME INTERESTS.

College admissions is a crapshoot. NYU wanted me to go to GSP.

If you really knew me you wouldn't think that. I am scared out of my mind, I cannot even sleep. NU is my dream school.

That was really, really mean, I didn't appreciate it and I think you're just bitter for some reason.

I can't believe you'd be so mean to someone. =( Did you purposely come on this thing to make people feel bad? EVEN WORSE than they feel already?

OH and also! My stats were put up cuz someone asked. Okay? !

I'm sorry if that sounded heated, but I'm really just annoyed by your reply.

CubsRule that was totally not needed. You are being malicious for no reason and you really should aplogize. Since when is it a crime to be worried about your future? And furthermore if you dont like the thread than why the hell are you wasting your time reading it and bashing someone else. Do you really have nothing else to do????

i think CubsRule is just trying to boost Puzzledly's ego, thus making him/her feelling better, in a ...uhm..... not really polite way.... but i think CubsRule meant no harm....
maybe i am wrong........ o well

lol, by the way, i just found out that i am not a URM

Although CubsRule may have put it in a strage way, they were really just trying to say that everyone should just take a few deep breaths and realize that NU isn't going to send a likely letter to every single person that will eventually be admitted. This board has a ton of extremely qualified students on it, so it seems like tons of people are getting letters, in comparison to the number of people who aren't. However, you have to really think about how many letters they may have sent out, and how many people they end up accepting.

Puzzledily - you do have good stats and I just think CubsRule was trying to tell you that you shouldn't be so worried. You have a great chance!

(Sorry if I sound like a crazy optomistic loser! haha Just thought there was some tension here that needed to be broken up...)

dramaqueen22

Thank you for the words of encouragement, but one must understand that at 2:00 A.M., when you're talking to 3 kids who got likelies, you're an URM, and you're on this crazy site where EVERYONE seems to have a 1400+ or a 30+ and practically found a cure for cancer..it messes with your nerves.

Also, I think he/she was just being a big meanie head. I am probably way too sensitive for my own good, but whatever.

I really wish I were as uh, cocky as he/she thinks I am - then I wouldn't be frikkin' out now. LESS THAN 24 HOURS! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

lithium - thanks

stany - winks =)

"EVERYONE seems to have a 1400+ or a 30+ and practically found a cure for cancer..."

So true. So true. Haha.

Hi everyone, I personally believe that a forum is for us to exchange information and help each other out positiviely.

Please do not unleash any kind of your frustration on anyone here, we are all on the same boat, eagerly waiting for some closures.

Everyone here hopes to get what he/she wants, however, the number of vacancies is limited and there are many qualified candidates, moreover, none of us belongs to the Admission Office, henceforth, we can't say anything for sure. The only thing we can do now, is to help each other out by easing some tension, giving words of encouragements and personal opinions.

I think there must be a good reason for her to post this thread, therefore, please try to relate our anxiety with hers and help her out if possible. Thanks.

Lastly, I wish you all the best everyone. I, myself are also waiting for the outcome. Puzzledlily-I am sure, everyone presents uniquely wonderful potentials and attributes to the adcom, you are no exception. Hence, just hope for the best and press on.
=)
Best
