Likely letters

Just got mine...anyone else?

Me too. But I don't think they're likely letters, more like, "Congratulations! You've been admitted" kind of deal. They did tell me to wait for my package.

really? are you guys in CAS? or whaT?

S received a "Congratulations, Welcome to NYU" card today. It is an invitation to an Admissions Reception. Inside the card it says that his official offer of admission to Steinhardt will be on its way....

is that for sports or something?

do you mean is he a recruited athlete? no

probably the most likely admits then?

did anyone who applied to stern get one?

I applied to CAS.

NYU sends out invitations to various Saturday/Sunday in the Square events which take place, usually, during the first week in April. Invitations should be received this week or next so that people can make travel arrangements. These invitations are for students who will be receiving formal offers of admission around April 1. Not all accepted students will be invited so don't worry if you haven't received one. It is usually the top applicants who receive them so that NYU can welcome them for these events and convince them to accept NYU's offer. Congratulations to those of you who have received one! You're in!

^^
Thats a strange marketing tool, inviting some "top" admits, but not all. If that happened to me I would immediately have negativie feelings about the institution. Like I am a second class admit. It also seems like a foolish stategy - spending time and good will on those least likely to attend, those who used NYU as a backup as opposed to those who actually will likely consider going.

Also I don't get the whole postcard thing...why not send the "official" letter? It's not like thay are bound by the 4/1 Ivy notification date.

So more will be received this week and next week?

where are you all from?

new jersey

^^deezmom, what made you think that any of these students are least likely to attend? We were planning to visit over spring break anyway, and now, with S's acceptance in hand, we will all be listening and looking very carefully. It's just a heads up to a predetermined group of students, that's all. As alwaysamom said above, not everybody gets one and can still be accepted. Good luck.

Has anyone received a letter who applied to Stern?

It would make sense that NYU would use "day in the Park" (The torn down Park???") to recruit a lot of those top-tier kids who might have NYU as a safety or match school. It would also make sense to me (correct me if I'm wrong) that the kids already accepted ED won't be likely to be invited to this "selling" even as we are already bound and SOLD to the school? Can you kids post your stats to see if our hypotheses are on target?

Fabulous news...just the beginning of MANY CC aceptances!

OMG.
I got one in the mail two minutes ago for Gallatin. So does that mean I got accepted for real? I don't think I'm exactly a "top applicant"...my scores/gpa aren't that great and I submitted my app literally at the last minute.

8o seriously? i just got one today! it made my day :D

Yeah! I also got one from Gallatin.

SO excited. Not my first choice but amazing nonetheless.

Remark_gi

Don't want to belabor the point, it just seems unusual. Most schools invite all accepted students to their "accepted students days"/sales pitch, not some "predetermined" group.
