I see. His GPA and test score are impressive. It also helps that the OOS cap was raised a few years back.
Agreed. Chicago is not for everyone. They have been trying to break out of stereotype of years past.
You live in a WICHE / WUE state (WUE is the undergraduate part of WICHE). Have you considered the other WUE schools?
Not really. He hasnāt expressed much interest in the NW part of the US. We certainly could if there was a good match there.
I see Syracuse mentioned. To me, thatās an urban schoolā¦ if itās ok, then Pitt would be too.
Urban - like a WUSTL - a tad closer in but a smaller city.
I havenāt been to Pittās campus -but it sounds urban but not downtown urban from everything Iāve read/heard.
At first I was thinking schools like Elon or Miami when OP said urban campus is a definite no. This would have eliminated Vandy, CWRU and others.
But then she said a WUSTL, for example, is ok - so it opened it up a bit.
I now take it as - not GW/NYU/BU.
Yes tsbna44 that is what I mean - not in the city like GW or NYU but a place like WUSTL works fine. It is a contained campus adjacent to suburban areas and you can walk to a little college town area.
College of Charleston may work. The tourist city is right there but my daughter walks 20 mins to The Battery Or Ubers to the beach for chill time. Take the online tour. See if itās not too urban My daughters scholarship is about $40k vs $35k tuition. So Its been favorable that way as well. Sheās in these three programs which may interest a student with your interests plus a huge Jewish life. 8-10% of kids. Itās apparently the only public school Hillel thatās part of the college.
I think u have lots of ideas by now :). A lot of good options for your student.
Donāt need to be female for this one nor to major in womanās studies. My daughter isnāt. You do need to be involved.
I understand. I suggested William and Mary along the lines of a āfirm up his listā school. As a related consideration, adding one or two desirable matches can enhance your sonās chances of getting into at least one desirable match school.
Was mentioned upthread, but I second Kansas as a good safety. Midsize campus (maybe on the larger end of midsize?), great college town, great school spirit, significant Jewish life, automatic merit for this student. Of all the many tours we did with D22, I think Kansas had the friendliest, most approachable students. D22 was prepared to accept there if she hadnāt been admitted at a reach school.
Update: Son ended up applying ED to Washington University in St. Louis and was accepted. He also got admissions decisions from IU (admit), Miami of Ohio (admit with merit), Tulane (deferred) and Case Western (admit with merit) before he had to withdraw his apps. Thanks for all the suggestions!
