Likely/Wink Letters

Does anyone know if Smith sends "likely" letters? If so, has anyone received one yet? When?

I don't think that they do. Sorry, I know it's a long, rough wait, but you've got to stick it out until april.

Thanks, smithieandproud. The wait is so hard for my daughter who has been looking forward to attending Smith for quiet some time! The more she hears, the more she likes!

From what I have heard, decision will be online on march 21st!

march 21? what are your sources, perjef?

they used to send out letters to STRIDE and Zollman scholars (maybe Mary Maples Dunn as well) a few weeks before admissions letters went out, telling people they got merit scholarships. However, there aren't that many people who get these awards (maybe 75?) and they may have stopped doing it anyway, now that decisions are posted online. So don't worry if you don't hear.

okay that was my other question: i just found where the smith website says RD letters are mailed on the 21st....are they also posted on bannerweb? when we check it, will it just pop up or what? (ive basically decided that im not going to get into any college i applied to, so im freaking out.)

Relax! You'll be fine. And at this point it's out of your control anyway, so don't stress (You're all super cute, btw, you remind me of myself at this time, three long years ago sigh).

I don't know if the March 21 mailout means that the decisions will be online at the same time, but it's possible. I know last year the applicants found out online very promptly (you guys have it so easy! When I applied in 2005, they didn't do ANY online notification). I wouldn't expect it before then however, and it may still be a few days after, I'm not sure what their procedure is or how long it will take them to input the decisions into the database for posting.

But hey, March 21 is my birthday! So hopefully it will be a happy day for you guys, and it's not very far away at all!

(I heard from someone in the office of admission that the date was March 21 a week ago, but I didn't want to say anything and cause panic. But yes, it looks to be true. You'll know for sure earlier that week.)

(My sister applied to Smith, and we'll be in Florida and probably without internet on the 21st, so it looks like she'll be waiting until she gets home anyway.)

Yikes! My daughter was expecting to hear once we were home from spring break. Now it sounds like it will be beforehand. I hope it's good news so we don't have hang-dog-itis as we leave for a much-needed vacation! Thanks for the heads-up.

omg SmithieandProud, my birthday is the 20th!

well, maybe it will be your lucky Smithie day then. :-)

I also knew about March 21st from my Counselor. Just two weeks left ..

When I called the admissions department a couple days ago they said that the decisions should be up online around 5 or 6pm (March 21).

its definitely 21st march. in an email from an adcom officer, it ended with "The Regular decision letters will be mailed on March 21, 2008".

My daugther received a letter on March 17th in 2006 telling her that although Smith doesn't extend official offers of admission until the end of March, my daughter was identified as an outstanding candidate and they wanted her to attend Smith as Mary Maples Dunn Scholar. So, the message basically was that she was in although the official notice didn't come until later.

Im in touch with the soccer coach and that was the date he advised me to check.
