We’ll be headed with D to NYC Unifieds next month. Right now she plans to audition for five schools while there. Although we don’t know about the time commitment for each auditon, it just seems like that’s too many auditions for one outing. We’re considering splitting 'em up between NYC and Chicago but of course there’s the time/money factor inherent in going to two different Unifieds. Any thoughts/experiences as to how much is truly enough?
We did 6 over 3 days at Chicago unifieds 2 years ago. One in morning, one in afternoon. All were scheduled. Some people did more with walk ins
I did 5 in one DAY at NY Unifieds in 2014 (granted, none of them had dance calls–it was Webster, Viterbo, Oklahoma, Stevens Point, and Northern Colorado. Things may have changed since then). I didn’t feel like I was rushing around too much. It all depends on your D and if she thrives on pressure–I know I do!
@Lawfang Five over how many days? If you could indicate your scheduled times and the names of the schools, I’m sure someone here could fill you in on whether or not you’re leaving enough time. Some schools get through things more quickly than others.
Unifieds scheduling has been tough, especially with all the dance calls. Things would be so much simpler if there was a dance call with several schools joined up together. What are some of the favorite, non dance call, schools that will be at Unifieds? My daughter has a little space on one day and I wonder which programs we should think about trying for a walk in.
We got it down to three for NYC Unifieds: Penn St., Roosevelt and Wright St.
My D had 3 or 4 scheduled at NY Unifieds, plus 1 on-campus the day before and 1 walk-in. Then, we went to Chicago Unifieds, where she did 1 or 2 a day, plus a couple walk-ins. She loved it and soaked up the energy. However, since she was homeschooled, she was able to take it easy a bit between unifieds.
I used the recommended time buffers the schools supplied and fit it together like a puzzle. The hardest part is the schools that haven’t confirmed yet. Has anyone gotten a time from U Arts for NYC?
@rittlette - both Viterbo and Long Island Post had walk-ins available in Chicago 2 years ago when my daughter auditioned. Neither had dance calls. Montclair also had walk-ins but did have a dance call. These were all schools that were on her radar prior to attending the walk-ins, but hadn’t actually applied. She loved doing the walk-ins, in fact, she was accepted to one and waitlisted at another.
Thanks so much @LoveMyMTGirl! I do think we will try Viterbo and she already has Montclair scheduled. Haven’t heard about Long Island Post but will look it up. So appreciate your insight!
Western Michigan does short, walk-in auditions. There is a short dance call in the evening if they are interested in you and you get a callback.
1998parent15 - we got a time for U Arts while in NYC for Jan. I think they were pretty booked up but had a wait list going and told me they may be opening up more spots and bring another faculty member to accommodate that.
Lawfang- my D has 5 auditions scheduled in the two days at NYC and it looks like she will have some extra time on one of the days (not back to back). She was able to also book two others on the days just prior to Unifieds. I think it is doable from people I know that have gone in the past.
