Limited Time on Campus

Hello. I'm commuting to college this fall, not by choice but because my parents don't want me to move out. I'll apply for housing during the spring semester but right now I'm still 17 so I can't sign it without my parents.
I don't have my own car and there is only one car for my whole family (four people). So my schedule will be very tight next year and I can only stay at school from about 8am to 2pm and I'm worried about my social life. I know that people always tell commuters to join clubs and organizations but that really isn't possible for me because I can't stay at school late enough for meetings. How else should I meet and talk to people? My best friend is going to the same school as me so I hope we can make friends together but what else should I do?

Thanks in advance.

You could figure out the bus schedule and take it.

You could also split the gas money with your friend and commute.

Or you could save up to buy your own car.

Thanks for the suggestions. It’s a two hour drive by car both ways but my friend will already take me if my dad’s car stops, which it will, but she’s living on campus. Also I can’t afford a car right now. My parents didn’t allow me to work in high school and they can’t afford to help me get one. Taking the bus would take two hours at the least (each way) and it only stops by my school a few times during the day so I don’t think I would have anymore free time but I’m looking into it.

How will you be able to afford housing then??

My parents have a bond for me and I will be working this summer. I also have a scholarship. I can pay for the first semester without loans since I won’t have to pay for housing but the second semester I will get one. Tuition is only around 3,000 a semester and my scholarship should cover my books. =) Sorry I should have said all of this in the first post.

Oh wow, 2 hours? thats a lot of gas money hun :< Is this still cost efficiant?

Probably not but try telling that to my mom. There’s no way I can change her mind so I just have to make the best of it.
