Limnology/Aquatic Biology

I'm having trouble finding a university in CA that offers this major beside UCSB. I'm an average student, so I don't think I can get into UCSB. Could you all please give me the names of some universities that offer this major, preferably in CA. Maybe UCSC?

I used the “College Search” function on this site-- it looks like UCSB is the only school in California that offers a limnology major.

Some unsolicited advice: I’m not in the field myself, but that’s a very specific undergraduate major. Typically, in the sciences, an employable graduate will have an bachelor’s degree in a core area (physics, chemistry, possibly biology) and then a graduate degree in a more specific area. Even limnology, though is pretty specific. I would guess that more schools offer study in that area, but under different names (look for departments of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences.) My point is that I wouldn’t be surprised if most limnologists majored in something other than limnology and simply took the limnology job that became available. It’s not really a career track-- hydrologist, environmental scientist, biochemist-- these are career tracks, and educational paths that would leave you qualified for a limnology job.

It’s a small, competitive field (as are most sciences,) so I would anticipate graduate study if I was in your position, and, if you’re set on pursuing a designated Limnology/Aquatic Biology major, work on becoming a better than average student. Many colleges have transfer articulation agreements-- if you couldn’t get into UCSB now, you could take your core classes at a community college and improve your academic standing in preparation for a transfer to UCSB for your last two years of a Bsc, where most of the meat of a major is, anyway.
