Lincoln Center Housing

So I've sent in my deposit and everything, when does housing information usually come out? Is it by email or normal mail? Is there a roommate survey and if so, what kind of questions are on it? How many people are usually in a freshman apartment? What are your opinions of the apartments? Are they as good as they look? Are there any advantages to living on certain floors?

Housing comes out at the end of August.

And this is the application: [housing lc apply](<a href=“Fordham University”>Fordham University)

Apartments range from 4 people to 6 people. A 4 would have 2 bedrooms with 2 people, a five would have 2 bedrooms with 2, 3 people and then a 6 will have 3 bedrooms with 2 people each. If you are stuck in a bunk, no problem. You can take the bed down. That’s what I did.

The apartments are fine. I don’t use the kitchen because the appliances are crap, but all universities are like that.

Personally, I wish I lived on 2 because it is such an easy walk to class and you don’t ever have to deal with the stupid elevators. They never work unless you are on break or coming in at 3 AM. Walking up to 5 is reasonable. 6 and 7 are a struggle. But freshmen never live in anything higher than 7, and they only take up about half of the floor.

okay, thanks a lot for your answers! when should i apply for housing? do i have to apply even if my acceptance letter said i was guaranteed housing?

also do i have an FIDN yet?

They will email you in the summer about all of that information. Just make sure you read all of their emails. :)

You will be able to take all the surveys in June. There is one for housing, foreign language placement if you are taking French or Spanish, and a preference survey for your EP courses. Housing is tied to the EP in that everyone in your apartment will be in the same class.

You should keep checking your myfordham.edu acct for all the info you need. There should be a new student tab and there was even a link to find out your ID number which is the number that is on all of your correspondence from Fordham.

As for the apartments, on the survey you will be asked if you prefer a 2 bedroom apt which has 1 bathroom, a 3 bedroom apt which has 2 or the wellness floor which is located on the 2nd floor. As for the “wellness” factor we were told it didn’t really exist so my S didn’t bother with that although he liked the concept of a substance free floor. You should expect that a 2 bedroom apt will have 5 people and a 3 bedroom could have up to 8 bc of forced triples. My S is in a forced triple and while he wasn’t happy about it, it has worked out fine and cost nearly $4k less than a standard double room. On the housing survey you will also state your preferences and living habits so they can match up roommates. Housing assignments do not come out until the beginning of August so I recommend that you start shopping primarily for your bedroom and your own supplies and then try to coordinate the kitchen/cleaning supplies/TV/microwave when you know who is in the apartment.

IMO the apartments are much nicer than the dorms at any other college we looked at. And while the appliances are not stainless steel professional kitchen appliances, they work well enough to put together a typical college meal.

There is a one day summer orientation session that you can attend as well and you should be getting info on that and on Urban Plunge soon. Last year, my S never received the Urban Plunge application so he emailed Fr. Vin DeCola who emailed him the app right away. So if you are interested definitely keep your eye out for it. My S handed in his application at the summer orientation and heard he was accepted in the end of July.

okay thanks! yeah i was a little anxious when i first clicked the link to the housing application because i didn’t know (or even know if i have) an FIDN but i noticed that its still the application for last year so i figured that its probably still too early. but i’m excited that all this information will come out soon, i’m so tired of the waiting game

you are guaranteed housing…if you do it in time. If you do it late or dont do it at all you wont get housing lol.

^^^Not all admissions offers come with housing. IF you receive housing, it is guaranteed for all 4 years.

No, but she has said she was guaranteed housing in previous posts.

Hi, Is meal plan required with LC housing?
If required, can anyone comment on the food choices?
Thx!

Freshman are required to put $800 each semester on a declining balance card and this money will carry over until you graduate or leave Fordham. All food choices are a la carte.

Lowenstein Cafe is pretty much the only place to eat. The hours are not great and the choices are pretty limited esp if you are not really into fast food type dining. My S does LOVE the smoothie bar, though.

The LC meal plan is intended as a supplement to whatever you are cooking in your apartment.

[Lincoln Center](http://www.fordham.edu/campus_resources/campus_facilities/hospitality_services/lincoln_center/index.asp)

thx…I’m counting the $$ and was hoping to keep the $800.

You will be happy you have it when you don’t feel like cooking for yourself esp during midterms and finals!

I hated the idea of a $1600 meal plan, but I’ve come to really like it. I would never ever ever eat Fordham prepared food, but their Diet Cokes were only $1.54.

The smoothie bar also makes fresh sandwiches. Those are decent. If I was returning to Fordham next year, then I would have put at least $200 or so on my card each semester for Diet Coke and assorted food.

Hi, I’m curious how the moving-in day looks like?
Is there a parking available for us to unpack in no rush?
Or should we rather do just the registration on 28th and move all belongings the next day?

move in is VERY efficient. they close off the road in front of mcmahon, and a huge group of orientation leaders will be there to help you move everything from your car into your dorm. you should definitely move in on move in day, when you have all the extra help, because the other days of orientation are going to be filled with other activities and such, so you won’t have time then.
