I was just wondering what those schools are like and if any current or former students could tell anything about life there. Also, has anyone ever gotten a full merit scholarship to either of these schools?
Thank so much

I have not heard good things about Linden. It seems more like an SAT prep school.

Do a search. There was some very interesting insight into Linden posted a year or so ago - it wasn’t very positive.

I can tell you a little about them. Linden Hall is unique because they don’t try to limit the number of students from any one country. So because of that, about half the school is from China. It just becomes an unusual student body when so many from one country are at a particular school. Grier limits their Chinese population as most boarding schools do. Grier is known for a few key programs----dance, horse back riding, and learning support. They offer a warm and nurturing program. As for the question on scholarships, they are both mainly financial aid schools—so depending on your need, you will be given a financial aid package. Typically schools try not to give 100% aid to anyone, and instead have parents pay what they can and spread the aid around more judiciously. Hope that helps!

I have had experience in both. Linden Hall has top notch academics, but it is hard. Do not expect to coast by. I have friends who were struggling at Linden hall so they transfered to grier which is much easier from what I have heard. But both places have really good community. Girls are nice in both places. Linden hall gives you a very uniwue international experience. I wouldnt say there is a huge diversity of actual ethnicity as there are clusters, but you will meet people from all backgrounds and socio-economic situations which is a nice experience.
I went to Grier and we had many girls every year coming from Linden because they thought it was miserable. Grier is really an amazing school, especially if you want to pursue dance or riding. If you want to do some kind of varsity team sport don’t expect much, I’ve heard athletics is fun but not competetive and we rarely win. I was a dancer and the dancers there are professional level. Overall I would say Grier is a better experience and we have plenty of APs and ways to be competetive to good schools! I got a 50% merit scholarship and most of my friends got the same. I do know someone who says she got a 95% scholarship although this is dubious. There are no full scholarships and scholarships rarely go above 50%. They will give you some other scholarsips to augment, I have a dance, riding and art scholarship (I don’t take art classes and I’m allergic to horses). This amounts to about an 80% scholarship. I loved it at Grier, it’s a good choice!
