S2 is headed to Chapel Hill in August. He has been assigned a room on the top floor of Craige, which according to our research is the worst option for on campus housing. We have been receiving a lot of mail telling us to order linen as the bed sizes in the dorms differ from standard twin sheets.
Both S1 and I subscribed to a linen service in college where, for a small fee, they would deliver a clean set of sheets and towels to the dorm weekly. Is something like this available at Chapel Hill? My google-fu is failing me.
Craige is not the worst dorm. Hojo is. And the best place for freshmen to be is in those crappy dorms where all of the other freshmen are. The “worst dorm” for a freshman would probably be one of the nice ones on north campus.
Tell your son to grow up and to go downstairs and do his own laundry every week. How else is he going to learn?
My daughter lived in Craige and liked it very much. She thought it was very convenient, she loved her suite, etc. We did not have any problems finding sheets in regular stores to fit the bed. I think we got deep sheets ( is there such a thing? I forgot) or extra long sheets ? so that it would fit over all of the other stuff that goes on the bed.
I seem to remember getting a mailing from the school about laundry service ( unless I am confusing it with another school). My daughter did her own laundry and never had any problems. It also becomes another way to meet people.
Btw sorry about the tone haha. Everything I said is still true though. Tell your son to do his own dang laundry!
Sheet size for dorm life is below. This time of year, most places have these in stock (Target, e.g.) especially if you are near a college town.
Sheets for Twin XL (mattress size is 80” long, 36” wide, 6” deep)
There is a laundry service at UNC but not a linen service specifically. Below is from the Carolina Housing website:
