Does everyone buy the linens and are they as great as the brochure says? It will certainly be convenient to buy them and having them at USC when you get there.

We used the linen service for my son last year. I thought it was a little pricey but it sure beat shipping things out to him. It worked well and there were no problems.

Would like to know how the mattresses are and whether the egg crate pad is something worthwhile.

The people I know who used the linen service hated the quality of the sheets. They were scratchy and just really poor quality.

The mattresses aren't bad, but I recommend the egg crate pad for sure. It made my bed so much more comfortable.

Which stores would you/anyone recommend to buy linens to fit the extra long beds that USC has?

You can find Extra Long twin size pretty much everywhere. Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Macys, Linens and Things. For those coming from out of state, there are stores a short (10 to 15 minute) drive from campus if you want to pick them up when you arrive.

What about the egg crate pad? Where can you find them?

I'd love more info. on the quality of the sheets. The prices seem pretty good, but I would hate to have scratchy or uncomfortable sheets when I could have gotten some cute, comfy ones from Target or something. Do most students go with the USC linens or do they go elsewhere?

Instead of an egg-crate pad, you might consider a memory foam pad - more comfortable and probably will last longer. Costco online sells an XL twin pad with pillow set for students - I think it was around $79 including shipping. I noticed you can also have bottled water shipped from Costco, and they sell a neat table-top water bottle cooler (like the kind you could rent from Sparkletts) for about $80. All of this could be shipped directly to USC - I hope they're still in stock when August rolls around. I don't think they sell twin XL sheets, unfortunately.

gotrojans - you can find some really well-priced and cute sheets out there. They don't take up that much room in your luggage, so why not treat yourself! Look at thecompanystore.com in their clearance section. I'm guessing they would be nicer than the USC linens, but I've had no personal experience so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Are these stuff hot? Memory foams and egg crate pad? Are there things that are more natural ?

I know this is kind of steering away from the op, but I'm allergic to carpet (the dust, rather), so would I have to buy my own vacuum? Or can I borrow it from an RA @ USC?

Just wondering...

I checked numerous web sites and twin XL sheets, solid color, are not so easy to find. However, I noticed the Company Store has twin xl fitted sheets. Do the top sheets need to be twin XL also, or is just plain twin for the top sheet o.k.? Thank you for the tips about Costco and Tne Company Store.

The customer services center for your building will have a vacuum that you can borrow.

Thanks Nikara. If it's not clean, I'll choke, lol. :p

I heard the campus sheets are very bad quality. Also, there is a HUGE line when you have to pick them up. I recommend sheets from Bed, Bath and Beyond called Pure Beech. They are made of a fiber from trees and are very soft. They run out of the good colors early in the summer, so buy them early. (Start savings those 20% off coupons, and get them from everyone you know. You will not believe how many times you will go to that store between now and September! I think they allow you to use 5 coupons per visit. They might also accept competitor's coupons, too. Keep your eyes peeled for a 20% off entire purchase coupon--those are like gold!!) Extra long sheets are for the fitted sheet; a regular twin-size sheet is used for the top sheet and comforter. B,B+B has a pack and hold service where you can pick out what you want at your local store, and then they arrange for the store closest to USC to have your items ready for you when you get there. (However, when my daughter went to school in another state, that store did not have the items when we got there! Call first to make sure the order didn't get lost.)Large sliding underbed storage drawers were the best things we bought. Three across fit under the bed nicely, and provided much needed space. A rotating fan was also a necessity. Resist the temptation to buy too much stuff. Keep in mind you will have to move it all back home at the end of the year! Definitely buy several cases of Costco bottled water. Those will fit behind the underbed drawers. Considering the bottled water on campus is $1.50 or more, this will be a big savings. If you buy a collapsing laundry drying rack, it is better to spend the extra for the steel or chrome one--the wooden ones break easily. Also, don't forget 2 or 3 extension cords.

Twin for the top sheet should be okay, I think. For me, I just used the fitted sheet and a blanket/comforter for most of the year.

Would it be okay to just use TWIN sheets + comforters?
I've been looking and there is really not much variety for TWIN XL sheets + comforters :x

For those that care - LNT has a printable 20% off coupon valid through tomorrow that should be usable at both LNT and BBB. Google it, it will pop up.

I checked both LNT and BBB. Limited selection Twin XL

Regular twin fitted sheets do not fit on the mattress. You have to use XL fitted sheets. pbteen.com has cute ones, although they are $$. Also check JC Penney. I bought some name brand designer twin XL sheets from TJMaxx which were terrible. We had to get rid of them at the end of the year. Although BBB might have a bad selection right now, it seems to me that they start bringing in the "dorm stuff" in June. You may be just a little bit early.
