linguistics at MIT?

Does anyone have any information about MIT's linguistics department? I've read everything on the site, but I'm just curious about if there's anything I should know that's not listed/what your opinions are.
Also, how many people major or minor in linguistics? I'm guessing it's a pretty small number...

According to my EC's opinion, the Department of Philosophy and Linguistics at MIT is fairly strong. But...nothign more! Sorry.

have you heard of Noam Chomsky?

Yes, and I know he's a professor there :)

Yep, the number of undergrads in Linguistics is pretty darn small.

First note, there is no major in Linguistics, per se. There is only the major in "Linguistics and Philosophy" (also sometimes called the "Program in Language and Mind") and is generally called course-24 in MIT parlance.

"[In the academic year of 2003] Two students... received the SB in Linguistics and Philosophy (Course 24)".

<a href="http://web.mit.edu/annualreports/pres03/09.01.html%5B/url%5D">http://web.mit.edu/annualreports/pres03/09.01.html</a></p>

Hence, 2 undergraduates received a degree in course24 last year. Not a lot.

I'm hopeing to double major in Geo and Linguistics. A bit unrelated to each other, I know. But good to see that someone else is thinking about Linguistics too! Hope to see you there, at some point
