You can download a pdf with detailed instructions for filling out FAFSA where it says
"You can download Completing the FAFSA, 2009-2010, in PDF format in English and Spanish."

You're welcome. The instructions are apparently a secret they don't want anyone to know about, so they don't tell anyone about them and make them hard to find. They are usually available in HTML (online), though still in an undisclosed location, but for some reason not this year so far.

I've used these for the past few years (in the html version)-- both to fill out our forms, and to help answer questions here. I agree with SCM-- they do seem to hide them for some reason.

Swimcat or any one else, I am scanning the PDF on my screen (not paying ink to print it all) and I read this on the bottom of page 1, but where are questions 46a-e & 94a-e? Sorry if I am lamely missing it, but if the worksheets ABC are gone and replaced with another set of questions, I am note seeing those questions- talking about a dependent student not simplified:

New for 2009-2010: The College Cost Reduction and Access Act (CCRAA), P.L. 110-84
mandates that we no longer collect the untaxed income information in Worksheet A of the
FAFSA. Because we needed to eliminate Worksheet A, we decided to also delete
Worksheets B and C and move the remaining data elements to the body of the FAFSA itself.
These data elements have been grouped logically on the form as “Additinal Financial
Information” (questions 46.a.-46.e. for the student and 94.a.-94.e. for the parent) and
“Untaxed Income” (questions 47.a.-47.j. for the student and 95.a.-95.i. for the parent). The
CPS will use the answers to these individual data elements to calculate total values for
“Additional Financial Information” and “Untaxed Income.” However, when using the EFC
Formula Worksheet, enter the sum total of the “Additional Financial Information” lines and the
“Untaxed Income” lines for both the student and parent, where appropriate.

Thanks for this! I was planning on working on this tomorrow with my mom and get it over with, already knowing how much of a pain in the arse the CSS Profile was.

I think there's a feature on the Profile site that allows you to easily transfer over many of the answers from Profile to their respective fields on FAFSA.

My parents have not filed 2008 income tax returns b/c their employers/businesses have not given out the necessary information and don't till the end of Jan. or early Feb. , one of the schools I'm applying to has FAFSA due March 31 and of course I want to send it before then, they say you can submit your FAFSA without it but don't you need to send the info later? My mother wants to submit her 2007 income tax return, but I told her that I don't think she should do that. Can she? I'm attending college in the fall of 2009 so I have to use the 2009-2010 FAFSA correct? I know it may sound silly asking but it's just that on FAFSA's website the 2009-2010 FAFSA isn't due until June 2010! That's more than a year away so it just makes me think that it's the wrong one to file for some reason.

Yes, 09/10 FAFSA. You look at your school's priority deadline for sumbitting, and meet that. You estimate '08 income for now, then when you have the actual numbers after taxes are done, you do a correction online and resubmit. OK to use '07 taxes as a guideline, but don't submit any tax forms to schools until requested.
