Hey guys,
I plan on applying to two very selective colleges, Georgia Tech and UGA. Now my odds of getting into these colleges are pretty low due to my GPA unweighted of around 3.3-3.5; however, I plan on applying anyways because it doesn’t hurt to try.
Because I have selected Computer Science as my primary intended degree, to try and score some extra points on my application I plan on linking the admission officers to a portfolio website that I have created that lists all my major programming endeavors.
One quick example of such “creative endeavors”: I made an SAT website where students can create “study groups” with their preferred settings, e.g.: math only questions, sentence completion questions, question time limit, etc – they can invite their friends or teachers/tutors and solve questions in real time.
The idea stemmed from when a group of friends and I wanted to study the SAT together, and I decided to make a very simple platform that allowed us all to study together easily when we weren’t at school or couldn’t meet up. The website includes several tools, including a drawing area where all the people in the group can draw their scratch work for everyone to see and share.
Of course I eventually took this basic idea and transformed it into a platform for anyone to use across the internet, not just for my friends.
Would putting stuff like this on my application be beneficial? Would the admission officers look at it?
(it costs money to purchase the servers for said projects, so I want to make sure it’s worth it before I even spend any money to do so)
Thanks!
