<p>Not a stupid question at all…I wish I knew the answer. The OP will know…you can also google it…so say if you want to look up a college that you are interested in, just google “Cheerios University & common data set”. I have done that in the past. If I remember correctly some schools don’t have them updated. I’m sure someone else will weigh in… </p>
<p>I think the CDS might be available for pretty much every school. A US government website, College Navigator, seems to have every college’s data set; and that even includes Roanoke College (mentioned up page) that apparently doesn’t make theirs public. My suspicion is that some government funding is tied to producing the CDS, so every college complies. <p>In the event that the link is barred, just search College Navigator. It’s actually quite easy to navigate (no pun intended; a little surprising for a .gov site) and the data is presented in a better format than the typical Word docs.</p>
<p>@mobius911 Where do you find the CDSs on the collegenavigator site? I looked up one school I had not previously found the CDS for (Bard), and there was lots of general information but I did not see the CDS.</p>
<p>^You are right. I have mainly looked for information on admissions, enrollment, and majors. On further investigation, what I don’t find at College Navigator is class size distribution, availability of early decision info, and some other things are in an abbreviated form. Not sure what else is missing. So it appears to be a condensed version of the CDS. Of course, it’s also reformatted for the web so it doesn’t look like the form.</p>
<p>In looking at admission to Harvard, one thing that stands out is that their early acceptance rate is so much higher (21% vs under 5% from what I recall), implying that getting in early is far easier. Harvard however states that this only because the early action applicants are a much stronger pool but I tend to doubt this explaining much or certainly all of the discrepancy. Does anyone have access to (or anecdotal evidence even
If it is less reliable) that can either confirm or disprove Harvard’s assertion? Broad indicators of student strength such as standardized test scores and gpa while not being fully indicative of the relative difficulty of admission (especially as Harvard boasts very strong candidates and acceptees by these measures on both early and regular decision and often other factor play a more crucial role in decision) might help. I know Harvard has a lot of pressure to keep up with other Ivies and MIT and Stanford in admitting a lot of their class through early action. This is important because while Harvard is only my 3rd choice ( prefer Stanford and MIT), I still like it a lot and if applying early there give such a boost (doesn’t seem to at MIT and Stanford), then that might convince me to apply early there instead of to other colleges like MIT and Stanford.</p>
<p>Is there Google Doc or something of the sort for all of the common data sheets? If not, that would be much more accessible than having to search through dozens of forum pages…</p>
