List all EC's Or...?

Hi - I have a rather general question to pose regarding the EC's on an application (Common App particularly).

Is it a good idea to list all the EC's/Clubs you've ever been involved in during high school?

The reason I ask this is I have been in some clubs for only 1 year and I'm not sure if it's favorable to list these (Academic Team, Math Team) or to only list those you've been a part of for 2 years or more, which would result in me having a couple of blanks in the EC list.

Thanks.

list your best ec's in the blanks.. fill the remaining blanks if any with the okay ec's in order of priority.

just fill the blanks, no more... that is if you don't have more extraordinary ec's than the available blanks

It would be foolish to leave blanks in place of an activity you have devoted an entire year to!

i disagree...adcoms are only going to want to read so much. don't dilute your good ECs with irrelevant ones.

That, and I don't think a year shows enough dedication. Unless of course, it was only possible to do during your senior year, or it was only a one year thing. But if it's some club or a sport, I wouldn't put it down if it were just for one year. If I were an admissions officer, it would look like the person was just trying to fill in blanks to impress. To me anyway, leaving a few blanks as long as the filled in ECs were significant would be alright. That's how I plan to fill in my apps anyway.

yeahhh i wouldnt reccomend leaving out stuff you have done i mean cmon Math Team even for one year is a lot of work am i right? And its not "diluting" anything by putting the other stuff it shows diversity though which is a good thing

I don't think a year should be a guideline for not putting the EC on. A year is a long time; it is plenty of time for doing lots of things with a particular EC.

That said, you may not want to put it if you just met with a club for an hour every month to eat some food and discuss about random things. (unless you need to fill in blanks (?))

That's what I'm saying. Just filling in blanks with insignificant activities makes you seem less impressive.

If for one year you were part of something in which you took part and motivated others and dedicated like 12 hours a week to, then yes I would put that. Depending on circumstances.

If for one year, you went to science club and talked or math team and just did some math for an hour or two a week, no I wouldn't. The question comes up: Why did you do it for only a year? If you liked it enough to put on your college application, then why didn't you do it for more than a year?

Filler I believe is just that... filler. It doesn't add any substance to you OR your application.

Ew. I just hate how I was in like three clubs freshman or sophomore year that I haven't stuck with, and I dedicated a significant amount of time to each one.

Whatever, I had fun. =D

at least thats better than me....i signed up for 3 clubs and debate this year lol and i have had no others (im a senior)
