I’ve never had a paid job really, I was locked in for an internship over the summer but my mom had a health emergency and now I’m her full-time caretaker. I emailed Georgetown and asked where I should put this because they don’t have a special circumstances section, and they told me to email to their admissions.

For this question on the app, would you recommend that I…

  1. Put caretaker and volunteer (or leave the volunteer off); the downside would be I can’t explain the caretaker situation as thoroughly
  2. Two volunteer experiences
  3. Leave it blank

I’d answer the question by stating that you had arranged an internship but had to forego it to care for your sick mother.

Internship approved but cancelled when parent required care assistance.

^ or: Internship offered but declined due to parent health emergency. Do you have room to mention the employer offering the internship?

Then I would list caregiver for family member as a second job.
