Well I sure hope everyone trying to get in isn't as qualified as you all or I'm going to get laughed at haha :(. I had no idea the PSAT would even count for anything so didn't study or even give it my 110% and only got a 161. GPA- 3.6 weighted. Not sure about unweighted (don't have a transcipt on me). 72 out of 412 class rank I think. We only have 6 classes so I couldn't take any AP's this year (I'm in advanced level classes but I'm still taking all my core classes. next year I'll be able to take whatever classes I want.) AP chem and
AP calc next year.

varsity cross country (went to state)
varsity indoor track
varsity outdoor track.
5 years total of band, 4 with leadership positions.
One year engineering club (we took first in the district).
one year student council.
3 years middle school baseball.
All-American sports award for best athlete in three different sports.
National band award.
Highest score possible in the solo and ensemble contest for my snare solo
local sports for 9 years
3 years of allstar baseball.
Took third out of 75 teams in FL baseball tournament in which I pitched
Volunteered to rennovate the school bandroom.
Volunteered to help clean out the bandroom after Hurricane Katrina
I'm currently building a scale model of a Higgins Boat from actual boat plans in my drafting class with one other student.
Honor Band

And I think that is it. I think my biggest hold back is my PSAT score.

Don't lose hope, you seem just as qualified even if it's not in the same areas. Have a little faith and keep that passion for the Academy alive and plus you have plenty of time. Start early, give it your all, and if you really want it, you'll get it.

-B

iF you havent I would try to join Civil Air Patrol, Im in it and I am a cadet major. Its a lot of work but its worth it.

I wouldn't worry about the PSAT so much. Heck, I'm not even sending mine because it doesn't even match up with my ACT. I think a 27 ACT is decent enough for SS, but then again, maybe I'm wrong.

Just remember though it's not just the standardized test scores, it is the whole person score which you seem to be doing well in drumin guy.

AFAbound: Are you CC for your squadron? I just got promoted to XO and should be a chief soon, but we don't have anybody in our squad higher than C/1Lt. My squad is really spread out, we have a lot of master sergeants and a lot of C/Amn and A1Cs, but not a lot of SrAmn and Staff and Tech Sgts. Also, we really don't have any more than 11 or 12 come to a meeting each week although I wish we could have more. Oh well, I guess it's just a result of living in a less popular Air Force area.

It would probably be safe to assume that stats for SS admission are weighted about the same as they are for academy admissions. In that case, I wouldn't downplay anything - especially not grades and SAT/ACT scores. They count for 60% of your overall score. A poor showing in that area is hard to make up for in EC's. If grades or scores keep you out of SS, take that as a warning and work like a dog to improve them. The academy will respect that, and it may get you an appointment. Every year there are people with appointments who failed to get into SS the year before. It probably wouldn't be too hard to find a few people who got into SS but didn't receive an appointment. As always, don't leave anything to chance, don't slack up in any area, and do make your application your fulltime job. As I told my own son, even if you don't get an appointment, the effort will still benefit you greatly in the long run.

Usafa21astr: I am in the same boat as you. I am the only cadet officer but we are very bottom heavy. Yes I am the XO i could be CC but I wanted to fill some other shoes before i went into cadet commander. When i was enlisted i refused to take any Officer positions because i wanted to work more with the enlisted since thats what i Was. But anyways, congrats on being XO, its alot of work.

Well thanks, I'll try to do my best. We've really been needing another cadet officer since we've pretty much been running off the DCC and CC for the last year. We lost a lot of people that would have filled the gap that we have and those officer positions. Hopefully with the newer cadets maturing we should be able to become a much better squadron. Nothing against my squad, but hopefully soon we can actual perform marching movements correctly :D.

i hope to apply as soon as applications are going to start being accepted
