I am applying to colleges soon and need to know which colleges require sat scores be sent directly from collegeboard. Here are the colleges i am applying in case there is no website listing all of them.

Penn State University Park
State University of New York at Stony Brook
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey: New Brunswick
University of Maryland-College Park
SUNY-Binghamton
Brooklyn College
Hofstra University
Syracuse University
George Washington University,
Northeastern University

Almost all colleges that require an SAT score for admissions will require an official score report from the College Board. It's for AP scores that you won't need to send in an official score report.

In order to have your SAT scores sent to your colleges, you can go to the Collegeboard website and submit requests online. Note that there is an additional ($9?) charge for each school you send your scores to above the 4 free ones they give you.

thats wierd cuz my guidence counsler said the most dont need it sent from collegeboard directly and can have it sent from the skewl. She said i should check on each schools website but dont want to spend my time lookin at each skewl.

There are a number of colleges that take either the score shown on your high school transcript or a copy of the score that you received in the mail to determine admission (and generally you must then send the official score if actually admitted at the time you accept the offer of admission). However, the only way for you to determine the school's rule on this is to check with each college. Their websites should tell you in their list of things required for admission. If it says you can send a copy or rely on transcript, you can do so. If it says only that the test score is required and does not say you can send copy or rely on transcript, you should assume an official score report from CB is needed (I have found in the past that colleges that do take a copy always say so in their admissions info.

Rutgers New Brunswick needs scores directly from college board. I had to send them when i applied, they would not accept the ones that were printed onto the hs transcript.

Almost EVERY school wants an official Collegeboard score. We talked about this in school today. It's because schools COULD lie on the official transcript.

Well think about it--SAT tests are administered by an outside company whose reputation is at stake with respect to the services they provide--why would they (or colleges) rely on third parties (the high schools) to accurately/timely report the results of these tests?

Btw, Northeastern also requires that scores come directly from College Board (although we're talking about YOUR future education--do YOU really want to rely on what other people who you do not even know tell you???)

Okay, can I just point out that the amount of effort you have used making and posting on this board could have easily been used to go to the school websites and check? Or, you can just call the admissions offices.

dantheman, you should call the schools you apply to and ask about this because nobody here is sure about the answer. Even if the admission officers say official scores are required, i suggest you bug them until they capitulate. Then another thing you can do is this: Apply without the official scores, tell them that it is on your school transcripts, and see what happens. It is not the end of the world if they don't accept unofficial scores. You can apply again next year. Good luck.

Well if they don't accept unofficial scores you don't have to wait until next year. Colleges will tell you that your application is incomplete and that they need your official scores. (This happened at a couple places where we had ordered the scores but they got lost somewhere along the way.) At that point, you may as well do it or your application fee was a waste of money.

But like I said, the application instructions will tell you if you have to send in official scores. You have to look at them anyway. It takes, what, 5 seconds to look at their list of what must be sent and when?

Why would you trust anonymous random strangers for such important info when you can check the colleges' web sites or e-mail or call their admissions offices?
