List of demands by “Students of Hamilton College”

Perhaps Hamilton can just become an online school. Then all the little children would be shielded from all the potential microagressions that might happen when you spend time with other human beings.

@cobrat
Ah, I see. Some colleges do in fact offer that option for non-freshmen.
Still confused about the “they” pronouns request.

Their best request was, IMO:
“We, the Students of Hamilton College, demand a Gender and Sexuality Resource center that will have the facilities to accommodate all LGBT+ students present and future. We demand a Cultural Diversity center that will provide a permanent meeting space to groups such as La Vanguardia, Black Latino Student Union, Hamilton Asian Cultural Exchange, Caribbean Student Association, Feminist of Color Collective, Muslim Student Association, and other vital cultural clubs”

As an prospective student (and ED applicant) of Hamilton College, I (choose to) believe that this list of demand is not from Hamilton students. At the very least, this list is only from a very small group of students who, IMHO, doesn’t deserve to be there.

Anyone in this thread who suggests Hamilton “strengthening the rigor of the freshman English composition courses” (#70) or claims that Hamilton “lowered their standards enough” (#43) is too subjective to acknowledge the fact that Hamilton prides itself as “a national leader in teaching students to write effectively” and stands by its pride by making lists of best colleges for writers.

And as TonyK has stated, Hamilton College has gender neutral housing which permits students “to live with any other student regardless of biological sex, gender identity and/or expression”. (http://www.hamilton.edu/student-handbook/residential-life)

Therefore, to me, Hamilton doesn’t seem so conservative.

This post serves one function only: defending Hamilton College against a surfeit of attacks based on inadequate and suspicious information (The Movement) without prior knowledge about the school.

They can cross one demand off of their list already. Hamilton College announced today the name of their next President. He is David Wippman, Dean of the University of Minnesota Law School. Mr. Wippman is a Law Professor who specializes in International Law.

The finalists had to have already been interviewed before The Movement demanded they get to ask them questions. He will have several months to study this situation before he has to make any decisions.

An absolutely hilarious video that sums up the SJW mentality

I’ve had an interest in the civil rights movement for years, making it the focus of several major assignments. The students at Hamilton apparently believe my race disqualifies me from chairing several departments at the college 20 years from now.

I don’t want to oppress them with my straight white male privilege by using such biased tools as “historical facts,” but perhaps someone should remind the students that the history of excluding people from a job due to their race is not exactly an illustrious one.

gmtplus7 I watched the video. I dont find it hilarious. I actually see it as an attack on women and gender identity. I take that seriously

It was kinda funny.

Tiger, I don’t know when the line between satire and racism disappeared in your worldview, but I don’t think a view that critiques opinions you happen to agree with is necessarily racist.

I would be careful when generalizing “the students at Hamilton” when this group is clearly one very small faction of the student body of the school. I think it is safe to assume that they do not speak for all Hamilton students.

@tiger1307

I take women’s & gay rights seriously, too. But I actually have a sense of humor.

So gmtplus7 you thought the video “asians in the library” from ucla was humorous also?

I think @GMTplus7 believes in the existence of viewpoints that fall somewhere between “We believe the world’s every ailment can be traced back to the actions of privileged white people” and “We believe negroes and orientals are naturally unsuited to higher education.”

I thought it was amusing enough as long as the viewer understood that it was hyperbole, and not referencing all students at a school.

I didn’t really catch how it was an attack on women, and due to my career circumstances I’m usually ultra-attuned to sexist overtones. Because the instructor was female? Because the female student character was played to the hilt? The most pathetic character in that skit was a male.

FWIW, the satire video was produced by comedian Neel Kolhatkar, the “brown, ambiguously gendered” actor in the skit.

Not a very sensible surmise.

@sorghum I am still waiting for gmtplus7 to answer.

One doesn’t generally answer insulting questions. What if you were asked “so you basically hate anyone who doesn’t look like you?”? I hope you wouldn’t think it worthy of a serious reply.

Wasn’t the poster waiting for an answer to a baiting question the same poster who thinks Cobrat doesn’t over generalize? Just an observation…

What do you mean, “ambiguously gendered”!? :slight_smile:
