List of Medical Schools that take AP Credits???

My kids all got 5s on their APs, and none had any trouble with the next level of course. At very high level universities, I might add.

I can see doing a retake if you only got a 3 or a 4. I can also imagine that college courses may vary from school to school, depending on the student body, so at some schools the AP level is perfectly adequate as a pre-req, whereas at others, not so much.

(College courses MUST vary in difficulty, if one college gives credit for a 3, and another one only for a 5, right?)

First Bio was not retake at all, at state college too! Lots of Honors kids have changed their plans to go to Med. School after first Bio class (all of them had AP Bio). More so, D’s HS used the same textbook as her first college Bio, but it was so much more than just that textbook. Most also take first Gen, Chem., but this one is easy, I agree. D. did have AP Chem. and it was really easy for her. So, it truly depends on school / class.

First off, I would like to thank everyone for taking their time to reply to my questions. As I was reading responses for the same question, different forum, a member directed me to a thread where my question was answered previously. In this thread I found a response which basically summed up what I was thinking while i was reading everyone’s replies.

^What do you think?..accurate?..could statistics be the upper level class in math that medical schools would like to see…or is it calculus2, because then I would need to start from scratch (pre-calc).

If I may add, I know the most reasonable or practical way to make a decision might be just to contact the ADCOM from any particular med-school Im interested in. However, I think it’s too early for that, considering I don’t even have any idea how i would perform in the MCAT.

Re: Calc 2 vs. stats.

Each medical school has its own preference. You really need to look at the admission requirements for each school you’re interested in. (You don’t need to email the ADCOM; UG course requirements are listed on each school’s admissions site.)

Currently only a handful of schools require 2 semesters of calculus. Only a slightly larger number require/recommend stats.

But that’s not to say this will still be true in 4 years or that the one school you really want to apply to in 4 years will not be among the handful that requires one course or the other.

The safest course would be to take stats AND Calc 1 & 2.

But you’re going to have to make a decision–and possibly take a risk that may or may not affect your future opportunities. Life often works like that.
