List of schools - Safety???

Hey guys I'm international (obviously). I was looking over my list of schools and I realized that all of them are so damn competitive to get into especially for me, an international needing aid.

So could any of you please tell me if my list of college is okay? With reaches, matches and safety? (Taking into account I need aid and my dad has set a limit of $20000 a year for my education, which is awesome enough)

These are my stats.

4As for A levels (out of 4) - Just to give you an idea of my transcript, it starts off rocky and gets better throughout.

SAT - CR 750, M 800, WR 680 (2230)

SAT 2 - Math 2 750
Physics 760
Chemistry 770

Here's my list of schools.

High reaches -

Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Brown
Dartmouth
Stanford (applied EA)
Amherst

Low reach-
Middlebury

Match-
Vassar
Macalester

Safety-
Lake Forest
SUNY Plattsburgh

If any of you have any idea if I'm taking too much of a risk (not enough matches or safeties), please advise. I'm getting kinda nervous as the deadlines approach.

Thanks in advance for your help, guys. :)

“an international needing aid”

Everything depends on how much aid you need. There are many colleges and universities that would be happy to admit a full-pay student with your stats, but if you need buckets of money none of them are safeties. Some colleges and universities in the US have total Cost of Attendance (COA) close to the range that your family can afford. One of them might work for you as a financial safety. Two examples:
http://www.bemidjistate.edu/</a>
http://www.morris.umn.edu/</a></p>

Your scores are better than average for their freshman class, but nothing stands out.
What about ECs or Awards?

Chance me?

happymomof1 - Thank you so much, you’ve been so great to everyone here with your wonderful advice. I will definitely consider the two schools you informed me about, although I had initially ruled out Bemidji State (never heard of the other one). However, I was under the assumption that SUNY Plattsburgh was my financial safety. I used the scholarship calculator on their website and it reduced the COA from 27000 to 20000. Now I know about additional costs each year, but I asked my dad and he said OK. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

HYPhoper - Hi. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I didn’t write about ECs or essays because I think those things are subjective, and only the admissions office will know what to make of it. That said, my ECS are not at all spectacular, my essays I think are pretty good. I wold love to chance you, but I’m afraid I dont know enough, so if I did chance you, it’d be worthless. If you still want to, though, please tell me, and I will.

Thanks guys. I am still looking for advice about my list of schools, about my matches and reaches, and if I should rule anything out. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don’t know about Macalester but I’d say move Vassar up from match into the reach zone, they’re still pretty selective!

Good luck to you though :)

We can’t chance you if you don’t tell us anything about your ECs/awards/other info. There are many who are rejected from those schools with higher stats than yours and some who are accepted with lower stats than yours.
