My goal is to be a propulsion engineer in the aerospace industry. I currently attend a California community college, but I will be transferring in Fall 2014. These are the schools I am considering:

Cal Poly SLO
Cal Poly Pomona
UC Davis
UC Berkeley
UC Santa Barbara
UC Merced
UC Irvine
San Jose State University
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott Campus
CSU Sacramento
Boise State University
University of Arizona

I have reasons why each is on my list, and I have already been accepted to ERAU and Boise State, but I would like to get some feedback so that I can make a more informed decision when I find out which universities accept me. More than anything, I want to be a quality engineer in the aerospace industry.

Can you afford all of them?

The only one that concerns me due to cost is ERAU. I am likely to receive a scholarship there, but only about $7k-8k/year.

Out of your list, I’m familiar with Cal Poly SLO, Pomona, and Berekeley. I think for OOS, Purdue and Michigan are pretty good schools for Aerospace.

Berkeley does not have a specific aerospace engineering major, although there is an engineering aerodynamics course in the mechanical engineering department (163):
[General Catalog - Mechanical Engineering Courses](http://general-catalog.berkeley.edu/catalog/gcc_list_crse_req?p_dept_name=Mechanical+Engineering&p_dept_cd=MEC+ENG)

If the school does not have a specific aerospace engineering major, you may want to check its course offerings (probably in mechanical engineering) to see if they meet your interests.

To clarify, I am applying as a mechanical engineer with a concentration in propulsion or a double major with aerospace engineering, depending on where I am accepted.

Contrary to what a lot of people think, Embry-Riddle is actually one of the more affordable private schools out there for engineering/physics. In fact, it’s cheaper than most public schools when looking at OOS costs.

Costs aside, ER-Prescott is great. I really, REALLY loved it there.

I would cross UC Merced and CSU Sacramento off your list as neither school has a strong engineering department.

my s’s best friend just graduated from Florida Institute of Technology and is doing just what you want to do at Cape Canaveral. To hear his father speak, FIT is pretty expensive, but I thought I’d mention it to you. You have an excellent list already, however. Good luck.

What school did you end up attending? Thanks
