Listen Up Y'all!!!

Hi! My question for you guys applying, accepted, or to any who are already in college at NYU is: what were your SAT scores , high school schedules, and extracurricular activities like? I have already checked NYU's website, the College Board, etc. Also what do you think makes you guys unique applicants, and to those already accepted, what do you think make you stand out? Any answers are appreciated, thanks.

FYI: I’m FREAKING out because I’m nervous I might not get accepted into NYU and I really don’t want to go to a state school. I really, really want to return to my home state and get a chance to live the life I never got the chance to live! Thanks again.

What are your stats and where did you apply? Stern?

Okay my GPA was not great at all, it was like a 3.75 weighted, but I’m in a very rigorous school (top 20 in US for math/sciences), and my SAT (2250), ACT (34), and SAT II (760 for Math 2) definitely made up for it.
if YOU can get great grades and great test scores, it will be a great shot for you.

NYU likes to see you take Honors/AP classes and excel in them, just like any other good university would. I think they were a bit lenient on Senior year grades, because I only took 2 AP’s and my grades were meh but I still got accepted!

It also all depends on which school in NYU you will apply to. Stern is definitely the hardest of all to get into, and also the most heartbreaking for applicants. The other schools after that trail behind in terms of acceptance rates.

Essays are also VERY important. Essays should be stellar and creative. Mine had to deal something along the lines of my independence and ‘adventurous’ quality, because NYU really looks for leaders and qualified people who show they can be independent especially in a city like NY. Extra-curricular activities like internships can help because they show you are passionate and a go-getter. etc etc

There are more stuff but I ran out of time so good luck next year or next next year or whenever you apply!

Wow, thank you. By the way, I have a 4.2 GPA weighted (currently a sophomore & 10% of my class). For a future double major in political science & history, what NYU school would be best for me? Please check out my other thread so you have a better idea as to whether NYU would be a good match. <a href=“What Do You Guys Think?
Stats are not everything. This year, as an accepted EDII candidate, I know for a fact that a great GPA and good test scores cannot get you into NYU.

Here’s why:

Every high school has a ranking. This is why when you fill out college applications, you are required to write down your high school(s) so that the Office of Admissions can get a better understanding of where you’re coming from. This means that a 4.0 at a high school that’s not competitive will be reviewed as being the same thing as having a 3.7 at one of the most competitive high school’s in the nation. That being said, a good GPA cannot get you into NYU. NYU will look at everything IN CONTEXT.

AP classes. These classes are huge indicators of whether or not you will be able to adjust to the college academic lifestyle. Like my first point, a 4.0 unweighted GPA is the same thing has having a 3.6 GPA with 9 AP classes. This is because AP classes are acknowledged as a college-course while non-AP/IB is just considered a regular high school class that NYU believes every student should be able to get an A in.

Your major/school. Whatever your put down as your major/school at NYU, will play a big part in whether you are accepted or not. Stern will look for applicants with better numbers while schools like Tisch will be less strict in that area and instead look for talent.

Okay, thanks. Can you click on the link of the post above you and tell me what you think?
