Listing of the colleges being applied?

GWU supplemental to the Common Application asked for a listing of the colleges being applied. How should this question be best answered? Should the students list all the schools they are applying to ? What would be the pros and cons for full disclosure or limited disclosure of the list of schools being applied? Appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.

I have seen this topic come up before, as GW is not the only school that asks this. Some people leave it blank, some only write down some of the schools they are applying to; my D put them all down, as GW was in the middle of the pack (she had some higher ranked schools and some lower ranked ones on the list). A con could be that the school might see you are applying to a lot of higher ranked schools and think you are considering them an admissions safety, which might make you less likely to attend, lowering their yield. I don’t really know what a pro would be or why they even ask. Her list was - Georgetown, GW, American, BC, BU, Tufts, Pitt. (She was rejected by GU and Tufts, and loves GW.)

I can’t decide either. GW is actually tied for my second choice, despite being the second “lowest” school on my list of seven. Listing some of my schools like Stanford or Yale could be a negative, but by the time I apply to GW I’ll have the results from there anyways - so there’s a pretty solid chance those two won’t matter.

I left that blank and then spoke about the choice of GW in my Why GW essay, instead of doing the Common App. It talked up all the assets of GW, explained why I wanted to go there over some other schools and I never really had to mention the first choice school I didnt get in to.
